  • Ed will be happy- plenty of room for a mudguard in there as well

bollocks. think i'll have to sell the frame in that case.

clearance is strange as the fork to big for 700c and gives a large drop for 650c.

  • Is a 700C just slightly too big, or way too big?

  • What frame is it? Could it be something like 26 x 1 1/4?

  • Will measure the 700c

It's a low profile time trial frame. Same size wheels front and rear.

  • Frame is from 1997 if that helps.

  • brake on an unmachined rim?

Nowt wrong with that. I'd be worried if it was a painted surface but anodised surfaces sill give you a decent enough surface to brake on

  • Frame is from 1997 if that helps.

it's unlikely to be an outdated size like 26 1 1/4 then, if that helps any.

  • Borrowed rim ;)

Question is - does it look like to much drop?

If you're concerned about finding a caliper that will reach then don't worry, you can get calipers with way deeper reach than that, The drop on my bike is something like 57mm, If you're concerned about wether it looks ok then that's a matter of personal opinion, I'd say it looks fine.

  • 45mm

45mm to where? Centre bolt to centre of the brake track places it squarely in the middle of the 39mm-49mm range of standard road race brakes. If it's 45mm to the outer edge of the rim, it's going to be tight on a standard drop brake, but a 47-57mm brake will be fine.

The fork looks like a track fork which has been crudely drilled, and it is just possible that a 28" 18mm tubular would squeeze under the crown.

  • Defiantly poorly drilled (not by myself)

Measurement is 45mm from hole to centre to brake surface as per Sheldon Brown. Will mount a brake tomorrow and see how it looks.

    Where would I source a 28"?

  • what kind of neighbourhood is charlton?

  • Where would I source a 28"?

28" is just old-school speak for 700mm, i.e. a tubular which is about the same rolling diameter as the same cross-section 700C clincher, the standard road racing and track size.

  • what kind of neighbourhood is charlton?

Their local team is Millwall; nuff sed.

  • what kind of neighbourhood is charlton?

    It's a shithole

  • Thus proving my almost complete ignorance about soccer :-)

  • It's a shithole

    Actually that's not entirely true.

90% of it is a shithole, 10% is nice, but you have to shop in the other 90%

  • you shop in a shithole?

  • When in Charlton...

  • what kind of neighbourhood is charlton?

Slightly better than Woolwich which says its all. The only nice part is around the park towards Greenwich Park.

  • ^10%

  • I looked at buying a lovely flat there, but couldn't bring myself to do it

  • good to know.

so basically if i stay close to greenwich park I should be good?
and east of the park as opposed to west?

as a side note: finding out about good places to live in london is not very easy, everyone says everywhere is shit. and places that aren't shit you have to be a millionaire to live in (or live with 15 people)

:) S'ok. You're not bad at that cycling lark.

  • everyone says everywhere is shit. and places that aren't shit you have to be a millionaire to live in (or live with 15 people)

They say that because it's true. That doesn't mean it's hard to find good information, it just means it's hard to find good accommodation.
