I say short cut but its obviously longer... I guess it helps you maintain speed and there's less cyclists/cars that use it and the square is pedestrianised now so you dont have to worry about vehicles and shit.

When I hit a red I like to position myself at either end of the line of cyclists at the front of the ASL and try to get a mexican wave going.

or if there are four of you, you could push the boat out and try to get the ymca going. would probably help if you sing the song so they understand why you're making a big Y shape with your arms.
