edwardes can be challenging, but if you go in clued up and don't ask too many questions they'll sort you out awesomely...
and yeah itsbruce, you wouldn't even recognise bellenden if you saw it now... -

I can't recommend Vaidas in Honor Oak Park enough. It's small and unpretentious, friendly, helpful and happy to loan tools and give free advice and will source parts and do deals. Some old frames and second hand fixies as well as brand new road bikes. Several NOS pinarello steel frames hanging in the window waiting to be built up. Great to have a serious bike shop in SE23.

but with fancy bollards.

I'm in Chadwick Road and know the guy who owns 'On Time Pizza'.
He tells me that the chap who's renting it from him (to start the bike shop) already has one shop up in Norf London and this is his 'branching out' venture. Apparently he makes 'custom' bikes in the way of lowriders/choppers etc. so it may not suit everyone's taste.
According to the leaflet he put through our door though he 'will not be beaten on service', and promises to supply all normal spares etc. so it may prove pretty useful, specially if he knows how to build/mend frames proper. I'm all for a really local LBS. -

the cycle team in brockley / telegraph hill have always been very good to me:

BTW it'd be good to see some of you SE15/SE24 local faces at The Telegraph next friday, pretty near tons of you, and near enough for us Lewishamish people ...
Seriously! Apparently there are a lot more forumengers in this area than I thought. Jayloo and I have Samuelson across the street now and T4NY4 is moving in with us in a few weeks! We have plenty of peeps to get fridays rolling strong.

Yay a peckham thread! I'll have to put a chirp in for wilsons, they've always managed to have what I need, though I always know exactly what I want before I go so I won't get confused and buy the wrong thing. They also sorted me with meters of brake cable for peanuts which was great!
Will check out the new shop when it opens. Though it's location makes me think it'll be similar to BC bikes. The rent on bellenden road is pretty high I think.
Oh and how has nobody mentioned the chippy just down the road - it's called Codfathers!!!! yes CODFATHERS
Oh and the best chocolate shop ever, it's run by 2 slightly rotund french sisters. Hot chocolate you can disappear into, yum.So far harold is the front line runner for ultimate thread read fail:
- The chippy is mentioned in post #49
- The chippy is called 'Cod Fellas'
However, you are scoring high for Labrador puppy-like enthusiasm. Have a bonio :)

The Cod Father used to be on East Dulwich Rd, the western-most shop in the parade that now houses BC Bikes. It all ties together in the end :)
(also, pointless sticking up for Edwardes. They've always been good to me but I know they can be... divisive) -
• #89
In my experience, they can be cowboys. But it's very random.
-
• #90
Another +1 for Edwardes, always been good as gold with me, no monkey business :)
-
• #91
we should all open a bike shop. i've decided.
maybe we could get harold to name it, and then forget what it's called. -
• #92
^ good shout! I'm going to call my bike shop RIM OF FIRE and also sell bastard hot jerk chicken. We'll do a special line in Aloe Vera saddle covers to sooth.
-
• #93
Oh dear, big fails. but the local knowledge, you must respect the local knowledge!
but puppy like enthusiasm is good
oh and check out the chocolate shop.
And come one if you're going to be critical -
Edwards is in Camberwell
BC is on Goose Green
Viadas or whatever is in Honour Oak/Forest Hillonly Wilsons is in Peckham and none of the others will claim to be so I'm not even being localy racist. Also I realise this is pointlessly critical but someone pulled me up for it so I have to respond.
-
• #94
spelling fail - Vaidas (not Viadas) is in Honor Oak (not Honour) and definitely not in Forest Hill :)
-
• #95
Vaidas is just a quick ride up the Rye and follow route 22 (or is it 21) over the railway line to Honor Oak. So no, not Peckham but near enough and good enough to be useful. and anything in East Dulwich is just not in the same class as what we have in Honor Oak or Peckham, so not worth mentioning.
Bellenden Rd has only become what it is as it's near enough to E. Dulwich for all those who can't afford E.Dulwich to live there instead and just pretend. (But, I'm just an inverted snob, so don't mind me) -

I am sorry to say that my experience with these guys was really poor. It was further exacerbated by not receiving a response to the email I sent them afterwards to point out my grievances.

Shall we go to the pub now, Aram?
Yeah going well thanks - you heading down for this drink later in the week?

Hmm, not sure yet... i'm sure we'll catch up at one in the future tho'... :]

Vaidas is quality, plus at the end of my road
put loads of assorted parts i gave him into a lovely s/s
BC gave me a cracking deal on a Trek Soho that was discontinued last year as well, they are top fellas in there as well
Sounds as if Bellenden Road has gone some way upmarket since I lived there.
I see Edwardes had a name-check earlier in the thread. Have had very mixed experiences with them and would now only use them as a source of spare parts.
