  • By the way, I'll try to make this need as few marshals as possible, BUT I am going to ask for your help to publicise it. It would be great if we had 20+ people like last year, please tell your friends and invite huge blocks of people from Facebook if possible.

  • Good work, fella. I'll be in London, but good luck.

  • I dont do early evening im affraid. Will spread the word though! Nice job though son

Thinking about it, with light evenings this needn't be 6.30 - I just copied the previous times. Traffic would be that much less an hour later, too. Maybe less fun for some of these guys but "safer" really and more appealing to other kinds of cyclist.
    What do you all think?

    Good work, fella.

    I haven't done anything yet!

  • Later and quieter sounds better. I'll try and drag people out for it.

  • I think that you can count on the Polo team members attending, along with me and my partner; Lois and at least two more friends. I'll also pin a copy of the poster to the notice board in Jurnets bar.

  • How about changing the poster picture to something that would appeal more to the general public?

    and the wording to something like;

Norwich AlleyCat; an evening bicycle treasure hunt across the historical city of Norwich. Suitable for ages and cycling abilities.

I found this picture on google images:

  • Or not calling it Alleycat at all, just bicycle treasure hunt?
Gets rid of the cards in spokes fixie RLJ into oncoming traffic connotations altogether then.

  • Yes, you should also get rid of any reference to a bicycle, wouldn't want to put off the joggers.

  • Yes, you should also get rid of any reference to a bicycle, wouldn't want to put off the joggers.

Make it an interactive online experience - wouldn't want to put off anyone who doesn't like going outside.

  • Choose Your Own Adventure? Wouldn't want to put off anyone who doesn't have a computer.

  • Oh you guise.

The pic is relevant to the "I spy..." theme and structure of this event. So far the poster is only seen here, but yea we could certainly present it in different ways to different demographics. I wouldn't have any qualms with it being portrayed differently, most people have never heard of an alleycat anyway.

  • Choose Your Own Adventure? Wouldn't want to put off anyone who doesn't have a computer.

If you do not have the scroll of ak'theirug-jah your adventure ends here. And you are eaten by a manticore.

  • Does anyone have a number for Gareth? Someone here at the EDP would like to talk to him about polo...

  • Two weeks to go, mofos. If you've already told your friends, then try telling your enemies or complete strangers.

  • I can guarantee myself and 5 others for the AlleyCat, and I've already put posters up at Jurnets bar, and the " It's not all about the bike" bicycle project just off Anglia Square.

Awesome, FB attendees look promising as well, should be good!

What's that "It's not all about the bike" thing, then?

  • Probably worth putting something up at Dr Bike. I was hanging out there yesterday and it's full of bikey types.

  • At the UEA.

    Will do, good idea.

What's that "It's not all about the bike" thing, then?

It's not about the bike is a not-for-profit scheme run by Norwich City Council. Where the unemployed, those with learning difficulties, the ex-offender and other members of the public can meet up socially and obtain a refurbished bicycle.

Old abandoned bikes are collected from around Norwich, and taken down to the workshop at 6 Beckham Place, Edward street, Norwich. Where on a Wednesday between 10am and 3pm you can select a bike and refurbish a bike for yourself from the many piled up in the corner with parts scavenged from complete scrapers.

There are several instructors/helpers who ensure that the refurbished bikes are correctly assembled and road worthy before leaving the workshop.

I go down there and help out a bit whenever I am not busy on a Wednesday.

  • One week to gooooooooooo

  • Yo, well all my friends don't exist are busy, so if anyone does want to be a marshal that would be great. I could dash between all the checkpoints myself but I suspect the competitors would be tempted just to follow me...

  • Thank you to Joe for organising the AlleyCat. A decent turn out of nine teams, including a few SS, and at least one fixie, the usual array of MTBs & hybrids and one team on a tandem. A good mix of people from all walks of life and aged from about 19 to 65. Lois & I came in 7th, but we did managed to find all the checkpoints for the first time out of the 3 AlleyCats that we have now done.

Thanks again for organising this evenings AlleyCat Joe.
