Been there, they don't have any images which may help me to identify the model... I know it's a 1956 or '57, but I don't know what model. It's 531, with Nervex lugs...
The closest I have found in terms of description is a 1962 Super Nova (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/FGimages/Road_Test/Cycling241062SuperNovatest.gif) but it's too young... -

also try bike forums ( not advertising them or anything but ... ) there seem to be knowledgeable blokes on there who are specialists in their field
the guys who collect and own gazelles can give me accurate dating and comment on bikes i have bought in the past i am sure there'll be a FH Grubb specialist or even the guy who built it posting away there ! -

[quote=mc_nebula;670590] ...I am not restoring the frame, the deralieur hanger has been filed off, so, I'm doing a fixed.
...quote]You may not be right about that, plenty of road frames built for deraillieurs of this era didn't have a braze-on hanger, but used a separate hanger that attatched to the axle - I have a Cyclco derailleur from that era with a hanger like this - so the ends may have always been like that. Unless you know one's been taken off, of course.
Just so you know.
Nice to meet you the other night.

Thanks Skully, I'm going on the fact that the rear dropouts are not identical. The one which would have a hanger has a small potrusion (~2mm), where the hanger would come from, as if it has been sawn off, but not actually filed all the way back do the dropout. Before the respray, a visual inspection appeared to confirm this.
the flickr page has a similar bike. the headbadge is the same, they stopped using that one in 1963. I know my bike is before then. I realy want to know what model it is...
It's got loads of braze on's, cable guides for rear brakes on the toptue, front and rear brake drillings, cable guide on the bb shell, shifter mount and pump mounts on the diagonal tube...

I have just inherited a bike which sounds similar.
I can confirm the gears at the back have an extra piece attached rather than part of the frame.
Mine has the SE20 badge on the front but no other info that can indicate the exact model, from limited investigation this seems to indicate a mid to late '50s frame.
It is designed for gears as the lever is attached to a part of the frame specifically designed for it.Sorry for the non technical speak here, I am not very clued up on cycling.

Cheers for the message about this :)
I'm at work at the moment, but I think I have a good idea as to which model I am riding. I will post the link when I get home...
In the mean time, here is a pic of my built up bike. The grubbs can be dated by the headbadge.
http://mc-nebula.com/bike/fixed/
Mine is late '50s. Could you post a picture of the dropouts on your grubb please? mine have a small potrusion where it appears that the deralieur hanger has been filed off, but I'm not certain. We could compare the dropouts where the derallieur attaches?
edit, also, what are your lugs like?

Pictures can be enlarged by right clicking on them and opening in another window.
If you do this on the picture of the badge you can see the transfer on the upright, but I will add pics of other transfers and the saddle later.
When you say tube, I am not sure what you mean? If I take pictures of the transfers I would guess they are on the tube? -

Here are some further pictures
The saddle is worn to the extent it is almost un-useable

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there
I'm also looking for some info about my Grubb path/track frame with number 181575. It has no head badge.
All the best from

I see that I am not the only one looking for info on my Grubb bike/frame. Mine is # 16324, and a few unusual characteristics could help someone identify it: The top of the seat tube says "72 degrees ". The pump pegs are on the underside of the top tube. One grease nipple (on bottom bracket). One shift boss on down tube.
Most curious of all is the fact that there are two (2) sets of headbadge rivet holes on the front of the head tube. It appears to have been punched out for both the newer-type badge and the shorter, older one, as well. -

Hi, just bought a Freddie Grubb serial number 11141 any idea what year and how do I find the catalogue as I want to see what is original and what has been replaced.
Ok, I have a frame manufactured by F.H. Grubb. Original headbadge is present, so I know it is pre 1963. It has Nervex lugs, the catalogue (I don't know the date) is here: Flickr Photo Download: nervex p.17
The guy who uploaded that catalogue (found via google) thinks it is ~1958, which is what I thought (1957) but I don't know what model the bike was...
I would be very interested if anyone has any knowledge on this, or, knows someone who does, to help me identify the frame model and year... the serial number is 14400. This is stamped on the bb shell (along with NERVEX) and on the steerer tube on the forks.
I am not restoring the frame, the deralieur hanger has been filed off, so, I'm doing a fixed.
Pictures on request.
