Fact-inator you do know that when a player is in the final year of their contract they are allowed to talk to any club they wish, whenever they wish. Therefore, ergo that can't be classed as tapping up.
If anything, Everton were done a huge favour by getting some return on the contract they had for the player rather than him leaving on a free.
