  • its kayaking and its in Bude up the road, Euro champs parently.

  • Hell yeah - that might win me a few more places. Particularly if they put the drinking in between the swim and the bike. Alcohol - the great leveler!

  • Has anyone interested in doing Tough Mudder (toughmudder.com/events/london) next year?

  • the only races Ive been to where they actually have beer at the drink stations are single speed mtb races. pretty good carbs.
one thing about triathlons that makes me laugh is when you see dudes afterwards scoffing chips and shit burgers again

  • looks a bit wank, expensive tbh, will be doing forest races in all weathers all winter anyhow.

  • just checked the participant profiles page- it is wank

  • Sadly I am in no way local to Cornwall (Streatham), but I have had some spectacular open water swims down there. On a particularly stunning day on the eve of Perranporth 2009 three of us swam around St Michael's Mount at Marazion. Phenomenal.

  • most open water swimmers think they are 'ardcore' so swim anywhere including non lifeguarded beaches.
Bude is big and wide if youre up north Cornwall.
loads of choice and everyone will have personal favourites,
    have a good time anyway

  • ^^^ am in the sleepy cornish hamlet of Manchester... so not much use, other than to say read the rnli leaflets about being safe in the water and what to do if caught by a rip current.

Spent a few summers in Bude, get down coast a short way to Widemouth Bay, much better than the Bude beaches.

m.f. got a link to this Bude Quadrathlon then? May be easier to race on a sat. Would need to learn to kayak too tho!

  • called the 'awesome foursome'
The event starts and finishes in Bude with the transition between disciplines taking place along side the Bude canal. disciplines. First is an undulating 800m sea swim within the partial protection of the Bude Breakwater, next comes a 30 km cycle race taking in some of the toughest coastal hills in Cornwall, including the 1 in 3 climb at Millook. Then return to Bude for a 10 km canoe race on the Bude canal and finally a 10 km run taking in towpaths, corn fields and the coastal path, finishing back by the canal. All in all an event that can stretch the fittest
    of multi-sport athletes.

  • sweet, gonna chat with SWMBO and see if we'll go do one or other, both or neither.

  • Can anyone recommend any good late season middle distance races? I'll be abroad until the 1st Oct but looking to keep my training going while I'm away and I'll be hoping to redeem myself after what looks set to be a disastrous IMAT in 2 weeks.

If there are no UK middle distance races I think I'll do amsterdam mara.

You looking for a triathlon in the UK after October 1st??

    Good luck at IM Austria

  • I thought it was a long shot - getting a little dark and chilly I guess!

Cheers - Austria is unlikely to be anything but a disaster - since 01/01/11: 4hours a week cycling, 1 hour a week running (when I'm not injured which I have been for the last month or so) and <1 swim per week. I haven't worn my wetsuit or swum open water since IMCH'10. On the plus side I set a PB for a 10m TT the other week and I'm still looking forward to it! :)

  • Don't know of anything outdoors happening after september.

    Get yourself down the lido!

  • So I've had a shit year for training.
Kept injuring myself via other sports, and then eating too much when not running.
Also exams took their toll over the past 3 months, when I just got stuck in the wrong rhythm.

All of which is no excuse, so I've all but pulled out of the 70.3 due in a month, and reassigned that as a goal for either later this summer, or 2012, which pushes back a few other plans as well.

Anyway, good luck to all the people training for stuff....

I need to pull my finger out this summer, my most recent 10k (last week) was near enough 50 minutes, which is so damn slow.

  • Aren't Triathlons generally for people who weren't very good at sport at school?

  • No. That's polo.

  • probably, weren't you in the tennis team with some joker off something?

  • No. That's polo.

    Oh yeah
