  • what tri is it?

doubt your chances of winning if you plan on staying dry.

  • splash, ride and dash, gonna be ace.

  • you doing it tiswas?

did my first tri today. eton supersprints. finished in 1:19. pretty chuffed with that, cruised though the swim at 50% effort and made 2 minutes on my two mates. pushed on the ride (half brutal headwind pegging us back to about 25k and half massive tailwind cruising in the biggest gear at +40kph!) then dragged my sorry carcass though the run and just finished without puking although i gave away nearly 9 minutes to my run-fit buddies.

finished the fucker though. could have done without the hour of headwind on the ride home though. am total shafted now. first beer in a week is tasting very sweet indeed.

looking forward to the dextro london tri in august now. more tt and run training needed!

  • shortie's aren't bad- did my first in one.

  • ahh, ok. They're not ideal really.
Also as mentioned before, more wetsuits= win.

  • sweet! i'm only sprinting on the saturday but maybe my next year i'll be ready to get olympic on hyde park's ass. best of luck dude.

why is shortie hard to get out of? i thought that would be easy? i slathered on the baby oil today and slipped out of my suit like a... like a... oiled, hairless man slipping out of a wet wetsuit. no bother at all.

it was short swim today 400m. hardly worth it really. bit annoying as that's my strong suit. just over 5 mins for that. 20k ride was 39 mins (headwind was brutal though!) and my very pedestrian run was 30 mins on the nose.

my friends each did 7 minute swims, 40ish minute rides and 21 and 23 minute runs. (it was everyone's first tri).

i came last. hehe. i'm really happy with my times though.

  • oh, I've entered one of these triathalon thingies. must get my eastons fixed, it's a flat n fast one on a dry still day.

I'm training towards doing the Roundhay Park one in Leeds in September, when's this one you've entered?

Also, are wet suits essential then?

  • weirdly, it was fine. feels odd for the first 5 minutes while you adjust but it's not too bad as you're sort of pre-warmed up. i made a BIG mistake and drank too much isotonic orange goo drink in the ride as fought a stitch for the first lap and the urge to barf for the second. if it hadn't been for that i think i would have been able to push it well under 30 mins. as it was, it was actually my fastest ever 5k!

  • It's an excellent time.

I usually find that the run is the best part, you just feel comfortable and know you're going to finish.

I've got one in June, Chester.

Good luck at Leeds - wetsuit will be essential, assuming it's not a pool swim?

p.s. you back at velodrome June 4th?

    p.p.s. well done Dooks...

  • It's a figure of speech, you're not actually supposed to sandwich your balls between them.

  • I'm going for a punishing "icecream" session tonight I think

  • Did anyone here take part in the London Duathlon last year? I've been thinking of entering this year as a training target. In theory I think I could "finish" the Ultra distance but definitely not breaking any records on the way... Not competed in one before so interested to know if I stumble across the finish line 6 and a half hours whether I'll be firmly last?

EDIT: Just saw last year's times and "yes" is the answer. I'll give the Challenge distance a go instead.

  • I've signed up for challenge - ultra looked a bit too much like a half iron man distance for my liking. And you'd get bored of endless loops of RP, I reckon.

  • This years tri done, was good fun. Might go do something daft in the autumn like the Perranporth surf tri....

  • As a Perranporth finisher (two years ago now) I can honestly say that is one of the best events I've ever competed in. Swim not for the faint-hearted (they've never cancelled it, and it can be really choppy) but the ride is awesome if you can ride hills well. Run is along the beach and the pints of rattlesnake cider at the end are beautiful.
Other one to consider is the Hellvelyn tri - that's a brutal ride too, whilst the run is up to the top of the hill and back again! Immense fun!

  • yeah, famous pic of the swimmers & lifeboat in big waves is great ad for it.

was drinking cornish rattler in croyde a few weeks back, more of an addlestones guy myself, but loopy cider preference is no reason to not race.

haven't checked if entries are still open for this year or not.

  • p.s Congrats on doing it yourself :)

  • nice one. ta.

meanwhile here's a meme (not my making) from Sundays race

  • gf came second female in Perranporth in 2009.
I didnt do it, ha, might be going to camp/ ride this year not sure yet.

  • cool, maybe see you there dude

  • Utterly failing to post some pics from the 2009 race, but yes, do it if there is space left.

  • theres a quadrathlon saturday/ tri sunday.
the one who never gives up is on about doing both.
wonder what its like being that masochistic?

  • what's the 4th bit? kayaking or cider guzzling? I'm in if it's the latter.
