Wonder if somebody could help?
Have a peugeot racer, with what appears to be the typical 24mm diameter seat post which is fine, but am wishing to change the saddle. Could anyone tell me if a normal ''rail'' saddle would fit the old type of seat post I currently have. Would have a look myself but have no ''rail'' saddles at hand.
Thanks

Yep. I don't know what you mean by 'rail' saddle - every saddle uses rails (except those really old sprung ones where the clamp is integrated into the springs). The only difficulty could come if you want to use a modern carbon-railed saddle which have larger diameter rails, but I imagine that all old saddles and the majority of new ones (except those with carbon rails) will fit.
If that doesn't sound right, then post some photos of the existing saddle and clamp.

C:\Users\Joe\Desktop... Hope these pictures come out ok. Sorry for the delay.. Doesn't look like a common form of seat/saddle any more. Can newer saddles bit fitted to these posts somehow or must I purchase a modern post with 24mm diameter..?
Thanks again

as far as i know the width between the rails is the same on a modern saddle and an old one, so you should be able to use the type of post with seperate clamp (like you have), with a modern saddle.

or use the clamp that's on the old saddle

Doesn't look like rails on the old saddle.
Then again, I may be wrong.

Oh ok. So you think the rails on modern saddles will be of equal separation as the two clamp plates on the saddle clamp in the link ... I think the clamp on my current saddle is integrated. None the less I will endeavour to get a separate one.
Thanks for the help!!

ahh, maybe not.

Well, if you are getting a new clamp (which you have to do anyway) then yes, it will fit any modern standard railed saddle. That said, they are often a bit of a fiddle to install, but work fine once they're on.

so is the shim used to make up for the difference between the 24mm seat tube and smaller diameter seat posts?

Yeah.
Fitting mine tomorrow, seems like it will do the job pretty well.

hmmm ok then. it seems most seat posts are of diameter 27.2mm. dont suppose there is something out there that would accompany such a post with my 24mm tube?

Hi guys, sorry I dont come on here very often as so many other things to do, right latest on 24mm seatpin is I have sold out, boo BUT... I do have some shims lefts, this is a 24mm shim down to 22.2mm so a slightly easier pin to find, ALSO I am looking at costings on having a 24mm seatpin made locally, this will not need shimming and will have a modern clamp design, I am also looking to keep price down so nothing to crazy while looking really tidy, I will hopefully know more soon, but as you can guess I am chasing people and prices, not sure if i can add my business email here but if people are interested I have a list of first come first served for when its made ( no deposits, dont believe in all deposits for stuff that isn't made / in the country yet )
Anyway if I am allowed to add my business email then let me know and I will pop it on here.
Cheers Mike (i got fed up looking for 24mm setapost as well) P

Cool it fitted, I had to file the slot into them by hand, by the end I had a nice little set up to get a perfect slot.
Bicycle Magic in Whitechapel have a good condition one.
