For those of you who do not follow the Save Herne Hill thread
Hackneybicycle Film Society have teamed up with Dulwich Paradiso Community Cinema to bring you
Free bike-powered cinema at
Herne Hill VelodromeSunday 17 April, 8.30pm
Burbage Road, Herne Hill, SE24 9HE
Watch the classic cycling movie, Belleville Rendez-vous, in the surroundings of a 1948 Olympic venue. The cinema will be bike-powered, courtesy of Electric Pedals (www.electricpedals.com) with volunteers needed to keep the film going!
**The 17th is the first day of cycling at Herne Hill in the year so in addition to the days racing the velodrome track will also be open from 6pm-8pm from a free open session (provided the track is dry). Simply bring your bike and ride around a London Olympic venue. **
This is an outdoor event so bring whatever you need to stay warm and dry. The film will go ahead rain or shine.
Belleville Rendez-Vous is a delightful, witty animation for all ages. It tells the story of Madame Souza, who prepares her orphaned grandson, Champion, to be a world-beating cyclist. During the mountain stage of the Tour de France, Champion is kidnapped by the French mafia and whisked across the Atlantic to the city of Belleville. Madame Souza and her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters, an aged song-and-dance team, to rescue him. Sylvain Chomet, France 2003, 80mins, cert 12.
“This impressively inventive French animated feature from comic-book artist Sylvain Chomet is far too entertaining to be enjoyed only by children. A** single viewing can barely do justice to this richly detailed and often playfully macabre adventure.**” BBCi
“Moving, funny, totally cinematic and graced with moments of genius... unique.” Empire
Presented by Herne Hill Velodrome in association with Electric Pedals, Hackney Bicycle Film Society, Free Film Festivals and Save the Velodrome.

They'll give us the space for free on the assumption that we'll buy a few beers,
which I thought was a pretty safe assumption...We can try that out and see what we think.
The address is:

**The Next Hackney Bicycle Film Society Show Monday 13th June
Bike like you mean it**
Bike Like U Mean It is a portrait of Austin, Texas' bike activists, those who ride their bikes for transportation, defiantly eschewing cars.
Outspoken and iconoclastic, they actively promote not only alternative forms of transportation, but an alternative vision of cities, urban design, lifestyle, and culture.
This is also a film about dreamers, those who are working at the fringes, pushing the envelope, and trying to envision a different future where traffic, congestion, pollution and road rage give way to more peaceful ways of moving around on the planet.
All the best
Adam
Unless otherwise stated all events occur at
Calthorpe Arms,
252 Grays Inn Road
