  • or do I bite the bullet strip out the frame and have the frame and fixings powder coated?

    Bigben, what state is your bike in now, and how rich are you feeling? I'm at the beginning of a rebuild for someone else;

    and I am genuinely scared at the money that needs to be spent to get the thing running and looking good. BMW parts prices have gone through the roof since I last did this, and if you do the full monty, frame strip, respray to paintwork, etc, everything has to be as close to perfect as possible and that will mean a huge amount being spent on new parts. It may be anality on my part, but you cannot use rusty nuts and bolts on a re-stoved frame. The seat needs to look and feel new, (so it will have to be new), the electrics, when you get new wiring throughout, and new relays, regulators coils etc, will work as well as you want them to on your shiny bike, and the clocks will need a new circuit board and the list just goes on and on and on. The one I'm doing is an RS (not as nice as Coppis to start with) being de-fairinged and having high bars. If I ever do this to mine I will have won the lottery.
