as it's outlived it's purpose (whatever that may have been), and is now just a chance for those with nothing better to do than stick the boot into situations which don't need their input.

Breeds a bullying "fight!fight!fight!" culture and signposts events/threads for people to egg on each other in the most prurient way possible, to get their own "funny" shit stirring digs in...

That thread should never close.

Without the popcorn thread where else would people go to lay into some poor unsuspecting noob who is just trying to sell an overpriced piece of junk.

Without the popcorn thread people would be able to get stroppy without half the forum turning up to watch (and turn the screws a bit).

Without the popcorn thread many of the arguments on this forum would go unobserved.

If you close the thread all that will happen is people will tag popcorn instead so the rest of us can search and still turn up to watch the bloodletting. This might be beneficial as the stroppy ranters, argumental sods and daft price setters will know the crowds are coming to watch, point and laugh.
