Its not essential, but if the locking procedure is analysed for the particular needs of your own bike, it could be. Having the right locks is essential. Some people, scratch that.....many people find them overly sensitive. But if I lived in shared accomodation, and had to leave a bike in the hallway, or on a balcony, I would add an alarm disklock.
