Saw this in Wimbledon this morning, good locking method;

thats the sheldon method, i swear buy it
well that's how he recommends to lock at any rate. minimal space for cutters and what not,

wheels alone = not safe!
-

The sheldon method involves only locking the wheel.

It doesn't look particularly secure, especially to a bike thief, who would probably try and attempt to nick it but if they have a hacksaw, they'll find that a rim is bloody hard to cut through when it's tensioned by the spokes.
I personally wouldn't lock my bike this way (in London anyway..It'd be fine where I live)

ahh fair do's, i thought that was the sheldon methood,
i lock my bike like that, central manchester so hardly super safe place, but then i never lock it anywhere out of site nore dose my bike look like much

Sheldon's method doesn't have the frame locked.
Neither the crank inside the lock - one great example of filling in the gap.

Hi,
I'm moving into a flat where there's really limited space for bikes and there are already 4 squished in. I'm trying to work out how I can securely store my bike. There is a big front yard, but with nothing to attach a lock to. Can anyone give me any useful tips? Would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Or see if your landlord will let you put one of these in the yard (floor or wall attaching)
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/kryptonite/stronghold-anchor-ec006156It comes with the bolts and drill bits to attach it, you just need a drill.
My landlord let me put one on our outside balcony wall. Bear in mind that you will be leaving it there when you move out tho.
Or just get a Brompton, they are awesomeness.

Get a wall rack and put it in your room. Then you can demand the others do the same, and bang, a clear landing.

I keep mine here. Safest place. The girl sleeps on a mattress on the floor

Saw some epic bike locking in barcelona, and a heap of gorgeous bikes as well. Some lovely brakless track bikes and a few tasty conversions. With the sketchy geezers hanging around the raval you need a good locking method, but 90% of it was textbook stuff. Vintage bike locking you might even say.
This example, however...

Does anyone know which of the New York locks that one is? I've been pondering upgrading my lock for a little while now, and given how well that fits the plug in that phot, it should fit mine equally well :)

Ny3000?
-

I wasn't sure if it was the New York 3000 or the New York M18
-

I doubt you need the length of the M18 to lock like that, but don't take my word for it. I've managed that method with my Fahg on smaller railings, with some effort and lining up of the cranks and spokes...

This.
the Fah Mini is thicker.
However I did managed with mine when I locked it up exactly as that picture.

i wouldnt go as far at to buy that. if you go to a hardware store, just get a mooring ring like you get along the canal, a few sleeve anchors and some M10 bolts. all done for under £20

I like the dedication to the cause shown here.

^^ The only issues I have with mooring rings is that they only need someone to undo the bolts and then you've lost your security. Allen headed bolts with ball bearings superglued in?

I'd have some rods welded instead of bolts and epoxy them in. It does mean that you won't be able to remove it, but that's the whole idea isn't it.
I have a fahg mini, but dropped it one day and now one of the pins that bites into the slot on the shackle slops about inside and can completely block the hole for the shackle. Have to hold it at the right angle so the pin slides away to let the shackle in. Still locks, but just fuckin annoying when locking up. Took it apart inside too (starting with he two allen key screws each side of the lock) and found there was a flimsy bit of plastic inside that has broken. Was dissapointed to find utter shit inside such a 'top of the line' lock.
Anybody else had a similar problem? Maybe the answer is to just not drop it.
