Let me know if others are available, and I'll add them too.
I've focussed on regular low-profile road/race rims, not touring rims. I may consider adding those later though.

I'll add my usual +a lot for Excellights. Easy to build with and entirely unscathed after two or three years of commuting duties. Unless I was racing and wanted aeroweenieness, I'd use them without question for any future set.

54.09 at http://www.totalcycling.com, says google. IIRC I paid about £50 for the last lot at BLB.

Cheers. I've now made the amendment.
Also, now added Gipiemme and others.

Anyone had Halo retros?
Basically was gonna go for Mavic CPX33s but I'm vain and the finish isn't shiny enough.
Would have preferred a V rather than a U shape but someone help me decide between:
Araya RC540/ Halo retro/ Mavic Open Pro.
FYI I weigh 14 st but don't do any jumpy things except drops off curbs. Have Phil hubs.

I think Halo Retro rims are a relatively new line, so there may not be many people sporting them so far. Your weight would not be problematic for any of the rims listed, if they are 32 sopke, which is pretty standard these days.
Correction:
Ambrosio Excellight SSC may need be examined more carefully than the others, as it is supposedly extra-light. The Sun Ringle Assault seems to have a few reports of cracks at the nipple hole, on the anodized rims. The non-anodized rims don't seem to share the same experience. This is not experience I am speaking from, but only what I have garnered from internet reports. View with suspicion, or curiosity. -

THE 319 and 119 are touring width, and is the sputknik too?
anyway here's 2 for you
DRC st17 (17mm outside ) elegant a very nice strong, good rim. BUT the walls are a little high and it can cause problems fitting tyres. a pity becasue the drc st 18 , 19 and the 'touring' are all excellentand a very useful rim in what seems to be a rare size : the exal lx17 (17m inside - at least that makes more sense) fits into the no mans land between racing (c. 622x13) and full touring (c. 622 x 19 ). takes 25mm to 32mm tyres very nicely

velocity a23
Velocity Synergy is also 23mm wide and slightly taller heavier
Velocity Dyad is just under 24mm wide but 24mm high V shape
nicest low profile V rim is Mavic CXP 12 which seems to still come up NOS on ebay -

if you're having the XR1 then how about;
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/drc-st18-alloy-700c-rim-black-id1076.html
i have these on my touring bike - but would prefer ex17 - but if it aint broke don't fix it... the drc 18 has been good for me despite my preference for a flatter eyeleted rim.
maybe rigida flyer / nova ?
but i think all these un eyeletted and pointy ones are verging into slightly 'aero'
these are near the touring / road margin at 17.5 and 16.5 mm internal respectively :

http://www.drc.it/catalogo/shopping/product_details.php?id=111&product_id=112sputnik (the css version) should qualify - the none css is the touring version - i think

So i'm looking at getting some mavic open pros. Seem in the price range and good.
However i'm going all black, gran compe hub & DT swiss revolution spokes , so i want thinking of using the CD over the Black with polished brake surfaces to keep it all black, however from pics they look more grey and also i hear bad things about the breaking surface on the CDs in the wet.
Anyone got opinions on them? Their colour and braking ability.Or suggestions of an alternative wheel?

Sorry to 'bump' but does anyone have an input on the above decision between mavic open pro black (with braking surface) and CD's. With regards to creating an all black build.
Which would work best, for consistency with a stealth theme?
-
• #14
CDs are definitely grey not black, on an all black build they will probably stick out.
In my experience the braking on them is pretty shit too and when the braking surface wears - which it will - they look uber shit.
I'd go with black ones.
