  • Pretty much the entire Flickr of this fella, is made of Cargo bike Awesomeness.

  • He made this... someone give this man a fucken Oscar!
    Prancers bike! :D

  • Fucking awesome.

    Apart from the chainset naturally.

  • Anyone know of a UK forum or web site specific for cargo bikes? I've got a Big Dummy and it's become my bike of choice (except when trains are involved in the travel) lately, and I'd quite like to know what's going on in the community. A Google of the subject matter returned nothing much in the UK.

  • A community of people who own cargo bicycle?

That'd be strange, like a community of people who own Ford Transit and go out dogging every fortnight.

Netherless there's a bloke, proper normal clothed one riding a Christina in Wimbledon as well as someone with a Big Dummy.

Very much want a Larry Vs. Harry but feel it might be overkill when I have a decent trailer + bike combo.

  • Almost as bad as a group that own land rover defenders and go out winching on a weekend...

    FTL!

  • yep, Faster Than Light: That's me.

Anyway, thanks for your help - you useless welps.

note to self: must use welps, awesome insult.

  • He's So cute I almost forgot what a moosey swoosie I am.

That'd be strange, like a community of people who own Ford Transit and go out dogging every fortnight.

Or a community of people who own fixed-gear bikes and go out skidding at the weekends.

  • I know motorassisted bikes might not be welcomed here, but spotted this today in Copenhagen:

That is amazing, want to see one in action! So much detail on it as well.

Curiously enough, a project for cargo bikes is just being started in Hackney. Here's a (n embryonic) blog linked to the Cycling Cultures project at UEL:

The project will feature introducing families to the joys of child transport by cargo bike and things like that. Should be interesting!

Gah. Why didn't I think of that. You're a clever fellow Buffalo Bill

  • he is old enough to be the cleverest

  • Singlespeed = fail.

    Believe me, I've been there.

  • gorgous but OMG I have to agree with 'scobble (shock horror?!), tried a mates bike out at the weekend with a bob type trailer with around 30kg on it, and yes, need ALL those 11-34t gears to move that thing around, and discs.

is that actually a surly trailer then?

I use the 26T ring of my triple quite a bit, when fully loaded. Would'nt fancey SS.

The clever bit is how you load it. If you add slightly more load forward of the trailer axle. You add a little weight to the rear wheel. This makes the frequent out of the saddle efforts a lot easier. Especially in winter conditions.

  • only if you like to cycle with your stem not attached to your steer tube

ahh i get it now. couldnt see the clips on the handlebars

This one is strange... The Gundle Bush car.
Leonard Gundle (the owner) on the rear in 1946.

  • That design (modified into a stretcher) has been successfully utilized in places without roads. I didn't realize that it was around in the 40s.
    Thanks for the pic!

  • Picked up from World Bicycle Relief Kenya to provide day-to-day transportation. Probably the heaviest bicycle I've ever owned at approx 43 pounds! Weight is definitely the index of a good bicycle in Kenya and with only a single gear some of the hills can be slightly tricky with a load on the back; the rear rack is rated for 250 pounds! This is the first bike I've ever owned with Dunlop valves and its definitely a unique ride. Still learning to throw my knees out when turning, otherwise you get knee overlap.

LG was an innovator. He had ARP (Air Raid Patrol) trucks in his catalogues pre 1939. Must have known what was coming.
