• I got it out with the help of the guys from the Hackney Bike Workshop and a massive comedy spanner. I did fashion a pin spanner from a coat hanger that works pretty well, its just the fixed cup that gives the most problems. You need to find a bike shop with a clamp on tool otherwise it just slips off when you apply any torque.

    Something like this that goes through the whole shell:

    Both cups are still in the frame.
    Tried to make a BB tool out of an isis tool and then cut stainless nails into the relevant splines then held in place with a jubliee clip. But it wasn't man enough, despite using the largest nails that would fit into the BB holes, they just bent under even reasonable force.
    The left hand cup (fixed?) with the two flat sides ain't going anywhere either, though TBH in that size I only have a mid-quality adjustable, which as you say, just slips off.
