To me, a rat is usually beautiful but distinct from pr0n (no matter the cost of parts) because;
It looks ridden / battered
The parts don't match
Stickers / adornments
That's about it really.
A beater is usually about the same but with less care taken to actually create/have a 'good' bike.
If it looks like the owner would leave it unlocked without too much thought, it's probably a beater.
As for a Frankenbike.. well that's up to you.
Now, seriously chaps, stop squabbling about this. We're all here simply to see good photos of good bikes anyway. /smileyface
