Anyone know about Aberdales?

  • So, Ive got a pension for building old bikes, and have more projects than i should. But there is one that ive been looking to do for a while that i havent had enough information to tackle. For a christmas present I wanted to take my dads old bike and freshen it up.

I thought i had pictures to post, ill have to fix that, but its an Aberdale Featherweight. three speed rear hub. No idea what the year is, or anything about it really, and the internet has been surprisingly useless. It is an English bike, so I figured id ask here.

I guess the primary thing i want to know is if its a relatively nice bike that i should keep all original as possible, or if its a cheap undesireable bike that i dont have to feel bad about stripping down and repainting. Somehow i doubt replacement decals and the like would be easy to locate given the lack of info on the web. it would be nice to be proven wrong though.

    thanks in advance.

  • just realized i accidentally posted this in the "general" section. if a moderator see's this, please feel free to move it to the "bikes & bits" section. I assume creating a second identical thread is frowned upon.

  • How did you manage to get a pension to build old bikes? Sounds a lot better than taking up birdwatching or watercolours...

thank you much, great history on the company in that link, sadly i don't think my fathers bike is a 30's vintage. I will probably need to head out to the cabin and snap some pictures of it to post up to get more definitive feedback.
