The Contax T arrived on Tuesday. It is a thing of beauty.
It feels a lot more solid than the Olympus XA and the Canonet, but I guess it was probably more expsensive than both of them when new and still today!)
My example thus far appears to be in first rate condition with one or two slight marks in the finish, but no dings or dents.
The handling is not as good as the XA. The ergonomics of the XA are simply unbeatable. Th Contax by comparison is a bit fiddly, opening the front cover is not a one handed job like the clamshell XA, and when open, the cover is a bit in the way of the focusing and aperture controls, so from an ergonomics perspective, the XA wins.
The winder on the Contax is lovely, it has a short, but quite thumbable (is that a word) lever that clicks flush into the body when not in use, but it has a second click position where it is perfect for quick winding.
The rangefinder on the Contax is beter than the XA and has a smother, better damped action which feels more acurate.
As to the optics, I am only half way through my first roll so I might be able to post some images at the weekend.
