ah I was running 48/16, and now, thanks to jun, 48/17.

the easiest way to do it is the simplification rule where you treat it as a fraction and the smallest number you get the cog size = the amount of skid patches.
ie -
46/16 = 23/8, giving 8 skid patches.
48/16 = 3/1, giving 1 patch.

...is too much maths.
