No just .. a potentially life changing leg injury ..
Yes, not good at all. It reminds me of Hülya Türkmen, who lost a leg in a crash on St Paul's Road some years ago. :(
The report says that the crash actually happened on Middleton Road. Was there really racing involved? It sounds totally awful, irresponsible driving or not.

^ However, the picture of the ambulance plus emergency personnel and victim was taken in Kingsland Road. I wonder if the cyclist was crossing Kingsland Road when he was hit?

Didn't mean my comment ironically / negatively in any way, just happy to find out it wasn't a casualty

the report in the gazette doesnt tally with what i saw. both the bike and the boy racer car were in kingsland road, a fair way up from middleton road. regardless hope the rider is ok, would be good to have some more info...
edit, just read the comments on the gazette site:
after speaking to an officer on the scene. he informed me that after an argument at the lights it carried on and it seems that the driver hit him on purpose... the car stopped about 50 metres away..how has there has been no arrests? i hope the book gets thrown at him and as a cyclist myself i hope the injured party makes a full recovery.

Shit, someone drove a car into someone on a bike. On purpose. Fucking sod.

This sounds nasty, best wishes for the poor guy.
As ever we have to be skeptical about 'witness' stories. The shopkeeper 'loafheads' spoke to could be the same one who gave a totally misleading story to the E.Standard when Anthony Smith was killed at the same junction 3 years ago.
There is a different story in the comments on the H.Gazette story, I wouldn't necessarily believe that one either. -

Good point Charlie.

I rode by it to. Whatever the story is, it cannot be good, because the spot where the bike was at was smack dab in the middle of the very long street between (I'm pretty sure) Middleton Rd and Arbutus St. Given the bike and car's location and the damage to the car, it would seem that the rider would have to have been hit directly from behind by someone going very fast (though depending on how fast the car was going the bike could have flown quite a distance too). That is, nothing the rider could have done about it.
Scary. Good thoughts and wishes for the rider. Fuck.

Absolutely. It is just always worth pointing out that despite the relief at finding out that the victim didn't die (and some victims die only months or weeks after the crash), a serious injury can still be very bad.
