  • Can anyone point me or louis in the direction of the strips you can attach to tub rims to allow them to take clinchers?

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread65707.html

  • It's called a clincher rim. They go on top of the spokes.

  • very good.

I have seen discussed here some sort of attachment for tub rims that converts them to clincher.

doesn't matter anyway looks like he's sticking with the tubs.

  • ^ bahah

  • if you have them both, why don't you just try?

  • Depends on the bcd of either. Try reading the link andy posted

  • also, i've read sheldons website, and he says going jis to iso will bring your cranks in 4.5mm.. so changing from a 113 shimano bb to the 115 tifosi should still bring each side in 2.5mm?

On this occasions, Sheldon Brown is wrong. I mean, he's kind of right if the specification on which he based his calculation was actually followed by any manufacturers, but it isn't.

Every bit of tolerance on the size of the square, whether the axle or the hole in your crank, is magnified 30-fold in chain line. Every full turn of the crank bolt moves the chainline 1.25mm, and just changing the type of lubrication on the threads can make a difference to how many turns you put on the bolt for a given torque input from your wrench.

In other words, dialling in chainline on square taper cranks is something you either do my tiresome and expensive trial and error, or ignore and hope you're close enough first time. Or you go back in time to 1992 and buy the incredibly rare and beautiful CQP BB, which is shimmed for chainline among many other benefits which would still make it cutting edge among square taper units today.

  • Or leave square taper in the past where it belongs?

  • good information..

so if i'm running 80's campy strada cranks on a conversion with 120mm spacing what do you think i should go for? 115 or 111? i'm just not sure the 111 will clear my chainstay, as accordiing to sheldon, that'll bring my chainline in by ~5.5mm.

  • anyone fancy rebuilding a wheel for me? I'm terrible at it and need a good job done on my currnet project. I have rim hub and spokes so just needs to be built. Cheers!

  • very good.

don't see how that could work? but maybe it does

seems to me as if it's confined to the same realm as inverse shims

  • Ah balls. Well then, without black stripe!
(and the moon, on a stick)

try swrve. they do a bunch of versions.

  • Where can I buy S&S couplers, as in buy them and have them installed later, wherever I choose?

    Where can I buy them?

    • Consumers should purchase complete bikes, frames manufactured with BTCs™** and accessory items from a local retailer. If your retailer doesn't carry bicycles with BTCs™ and is unable to work with a listed framebuilder, we suggest you contact a framebuilder to locate a retailer in your area. In areas where a framebuilder isn't represented, they may sell to you direct, but there is usually no price advantage. Some framebuilders don't sell through retailers, they only sell direct to consumers. For information regarding whether a framebuilder sells direct or through retailers, see the builder profile for each framebuilder which can be found by clicking on the framebuilder's name on the **framebuilder lists..
    • Retrofitting BTCs™** to your existing frame** can be arranged through a retailer but it is more commonly done by going direct to a** framebuilder**.
    • BTCs™** are sold only to professional bicycle framebuilders. **We're sorry but couplings are not sold to amateur framebuilders.
    • S and S Machine does not sell bikes or retrofit bikes, we only make the couplings which we sell to professional bicycle framebuilders.

I could fly as hand luggage :)

  • Thanks Andy ;) appreciated.

I sorta assumed it would work this way, since the manufacture needs to warrant himself against weaponry in bike building.
    Frame builder it is then.

  • just emphasizing again that they usually only sell to insured framebuilders.

So if your buddy builds frames on the side as a hobby they probably can't get them.

  • What is a C6 search?

  • It's like a google search, except looks like this.

    Cheers.
