Wanted: Touring Wheelset Campag Compatible

Posted on
  • Anyone got a nice, decent set of 700c training / commuting wheels up to a bit of light touring? Must be campag compatible. NOT FULCRUM which appear to be almost impossible to get a tyre on...

P.s. Also trade if anyone wants a pair of Fulcrum 5s!!!

  • the fulcrum hating is a result of four hours trying to get a pair of marathon + on them and four ruined inner tubes and no success...

  • Have you tried talcum powder? Not that it helps when your stuck in the middle of no-where with a P##c###e!

  • It's probably a combo of the wheel / tyre. Aren't Marathons supposed to be well 'ard to get on anyway?

  • Yea marathons are hard to get on but this was impossible! Also found a few links bemoaning fulcrum for getting tyres on generally so I think the combination is just a no go - better find out now than end of June when touring in the rain 20 miles from anywhere and there's a psssssssssst!!!

  • I have a pair of Chorus Hubbed Open Pro Wheels if you are interested in a swap, they are fairly true but not absolutely perfect, but very hardy and ideal as touring wheels.

Hi Jkulin, how old/used and what condition are the rims in? Do you have a pic?

  • You are using the 'valve on last' technique are you? This is where you fit the second bead working towards the valve, periodicaly resettling the bead already fitted in the centre of the rim, so releasing that oh-so-vital extra amount of unfitted bead so that the final click is right by the valve. And don't be shy about pushing the valve into the body of the tyre, otherwise it tends to lock the yet to be fitted bead out. And also to keep a small amount of air in the tube, so that it doesn't get pinched.

I'll try and get some photos tomorrow, rims are good condition, I bought them off Hilary some time ago for my daughter, but she progressed onto Zondas. Not sure of the age but ally hubs with open pro rims

  • okay - sounds interesting, likewise the fulcrums have had a few spokes replaced but otherwise run true and in pretty good condition. Not sure of age as they came with a second hand bike.

  • Photo's attached, they are Chorus hubs, very smooth, with open pro rims, no corrosion, just a little dirt around the nipples, spinning them up they look really quite true (I must have done a better job than I thought on truing them up).

They are 9/10/11Speed Campag Compatible, let me know what you think?
