  • We so need a Smallfurry current project thread.

    I find 50/36 a much more usable set-up than 50/34.

After silly amounts of calculations and comparisons. I've come to the conclusion that the 36t ring is the cheapest part of the set-up. So will give it a whirl.

  • Still unable to post new threads so will add to this..hope it makes sense.

Im in need of a new crankset & BB for my 2010 Genesis flyer.

Have been looking at the sugino rd2 messenger & sugino BB but am a little confused.

What do i need to look out for to make sure all will be OK?

    Crankset & BB details are
    P.C.D. 130mm
    Crank Length :165mm
    Chainring : 46T
    B.B.Axle :103mm(CBBAL-103)
    Chain Line :45.0mm(CBBAL-103)

Will this just fit on without any problems?

I do not know what the chainline measurement is on the flyer stock set up.

I can see that the stock set up on the flyer is using 3/32 chainwheel, chain & freewheel so i guess i will also need to buy a new 1/8 freewheel & chain but is there anything else that i need to take into account?

  • I thought that that was the chainset the flyers came with? Are you sure you need both cranks and BB?

I'm not sure if you know what the stats you've listed mean, but if you go on sheldon brown you can find out.

The PCD (or BCD) refers to what size chainring you need.

The BB axle is the important part. Because this (plus the cranks) determines the chain line. I'm always a bit confused with the Sugino chainline, because basically to get a straight chainline you have to put the ring on the inside bolts... which is just a visual issue, but means you may have well just bought some nicer road cranks off ebay.

The standard 'track' chainline that almost all hubs work to is 42mm. So that is 3mm out - hence why you end up having to put the chainring on the inside.

If it were me looking in that price range, I'd choose SRAM S300 and the matching BB.

  • Can anyone advise me some decent single speed cranks for less than £60 second hand? or £80 new?

  • I have a set of Sram S300's that I could sell you, they've only been used for a few weeks of occasional use so are in good condintion. I can take pictures if you want?

  • oh? How much? how many teeth and how long is the crank arm?

  • They are 170mm 48t £70?

  • hmm no but thanks anyways :) i'm looking for cheap suginos now

  • Hi, I may be interested, could you send some pics please?

  • Hello,

Does anybody know if a SRAM S300 will have a correct chaineline on a Steamroller (I'm planing to build, not sure yet.. maybe I'll end with a Fuji) using Miche Xpress wheelset ?

    Thanks in advance

    Luc

  • yes

  • Hi, is anyone using an SRAM S300 with a charge plug (and the standard wheels) or does it give an odd chainline. thank you for your thoughts.

  • it gives a normal track chainline. If using with a 120 spaced rear hub, it will give you a good chainline.

  • thank you :)

If this is on EAI website, does it mean that shimano is still doing some fluted cranks and they could be available somewhere to buy?

  • if you look better at EAI site, you will see the have many more vintage items there - and it does not mean they are still in production

  • Of course, would be too good to be true:(
Was hoping that they decided to make them for special order for some retailer. It's not impossible to make them. FSA does the gimondi.

  • ummm, do you see the difference? =))

  • Those cheapo DA ones dont have the proper cut outs?

  • I emailed EAI and they said that "These cranks are available by special order from www.hubjub.co.uk. Please contact Mr. Will Meister from Hubjub for assistance."
I emailed hubjub to see if they can order it.
Probably they would cost a fortune...

  • Just heard back from Hubjub.
Yes, they can be ordered, for just over 1000£...
I knew they wouldn't be cheap.

  • lol
these appeare from time to time on ebay and even here, for about 5 or 6 times less

  • Not sure if these are on the list, I'd guess not.
