  • Is there a way you could make it look like the bikes you want haven't been abandoned - maybe by removing the notices and giving them a dust off? If the workers are just clearing abandoned bikes that might give you a bit of grace.

  • borrow the angle grinder, get down to a hardware store or toolstation etc (hell, even argo's would do them) borrow some goggles and gloves and get down to it.

by the sounds of the sec guards, they will probably damage the bikes in the process just to make sure and as a bit of fun.

  • nah they've made records - there is only about 3 or 4 bikes so will try and get them all out tomorrow

  • If the locks have those circular keys you could try this:

  • holy shit stains! it that video for real

  • those are really old locks... hehe

  • the video is 4 years old

Unfortunately yes, but it is old, however it was a big enough problem for kryptonite that they offered replacement locks to some customers and redesigned the locks hence the "new" flat keys.

  • The bikes are free and on their way to new homes! Thanks everyone for your advice. In the end I talked the security guy in the basement into showing me his arm long bolt cutters (it was really too easy) I then questioned with big eyes as to whether his big cutters could cut such locks and the prove the point he flexed his muscles and cut them off. Then panicked and ran off shouting behind him 'no one saw me do that right!' justice was done!

  • haha good work.

Better to see old bike go to use than the scrapheap, though try telling that to the county council 'recycling station' (aka teh council tip) who will do anything, even install cctv cameras so you cannot 'recycle' the bikes that get thrown away in there every day of the week (even sundays, actually you get the best tip stuff on sundays).

You can do at the my local tip, however you have to pay a fiver for every item you remove :(

  • is that a [backhanded gesture] fiver?

  • No I think its just council policy. They don't actually call it a tip its a "refuse and recyling" centre apparently. I was there at the weekend and was looking at an old rigid Kona that would have been great with a bit of TLC wheels were true, no rust on the frame etc. However the Mrs caught me looking at it and gave her patented "don't even think about it" look.
