There are non so blind as those who will not see- and the cycling zealot is a great example of this.
I popped out earlier today, I needed a few things for the bathroom.
For this trip I took the car as I decided it was the most sensible form of transport.
I returned to the house with 6 X 3 metre 2"X4", 8 X 3 metre 2"X3" and 6 X 900X1200X12.5mm plasterboards, plus ancillary plumbing bits and bobs.
This load would have been a stretch for my OnTrend courier bag.

That's not necessarily an argument for *owning *a car though.

I could have rented a van, true- I am a member of a popular hourly van rental scheme.
It would have taken ~4 hours out of my day though, having the choice to jump into my car and go saved me around 2.5 hours.
You can never get more time.
By the same token now that you can rent a Boris Bike why choose to own one?

So, it's an argument about how we get access to motor vehicles and how, without owning them, we are able to use them easily on the occasions when we have to. Which involves all sorts of different ideas about how we live, how cities and towns are organised, about priorities, ownership and so on.

Ha, good one. I will hire the one stationed in my garden to take me to the corner shop next time.

I would have to walk 10k before getting to the nearest hire bike stand. There's my argument.
I would like a car but they are not necessary. I've moved house without them - people just need to get clever and htfu a bit.

There's the issue. There really aren't enough of them. Still, isn't this about cars?
