Quick MTB tyre question

  • Ok I know nothing about MTB but am doing someone a favour by stripping It down cleaning and rebuilding, it needs a few bits sorting which is fine.

But the tyres are puzzling me as no one seems to have them in stock(wiggle etc) they are
26x2.10 (54-559). Now I thought stick that in a search box and there will be hundreds... But no... So is it just an older uncommon size? What should I stick on it instead.

    Thanks

  • Many places will have these in stock. 26x2.1 means 26" diameter (standard mtb size) and then 2.1" width (again, very common).

How much are you looking to spend?

    Try: Panaracer Tyre

If it was a 2.1 on there previously, you will be fine with anything from a 1.95 - 2.25 width.

    Good luck!

  • It's a 26" tire - standard MTB - in 2.1" width. Par exemple; http://www.wiggle.co.uk/geax-mezcal-tnt-mtb-folding-tyre/

That's just a random tire, not an endorsement.

Ooh, slightly faster and slightly more helpful. You're good. Real good.

  • it just means 2.1"

but in MTB world 2.1" can vary in size dramatically between manufacturers as they measure them in different ways + market hype.

For a general smaller mtb tyre that rolls fairly quickly, has ok puncture protection and doesn't weigh/ cost the earth, look at conti verticals or the swalbe equivilent (can't remember the name, simon?). cost about £12 a piece.

  • Thanks all that's perfect.

Was weird as the 26 x 2.1 I saw all seemed to be 0 quantity or discontinued but all worded now.
