They can and they do, but then they get hurt.

Gabes was hurt in the hand by a player who never wears padded gloves.

Joe was hit in the face by a player who never wears a face cage.

My point is that people who wear gloves and cages don't play with-out concern to other players' hands and faces, they just hold a lot of value in their own.

Ok maybe I should have said people shouldn't need tomdress like a stormtrooper to avoid injury in throwins!

If you were playing football in the park with friends you wouldn't expect to be scythed down by a challenge... Or have to wear shin pads...
