  • Cheers, taking your time is key I think, I did it over two weeks.

  • I sprayed a frame over a month, tried to get it a metallic white... prepped loads, had it cure in a heated area...

still chipped really easily, and spent about the same on rattle cans in the end as a cheap powder coat would've been. Worth doing it for the experience though.

  • Did you clear coat too? This has had 3/4* coats of primer, 3/4* coats of colour & 2 of clear coat. Thankfully its cost me much less than it should have as I have a friend who works in Halfords.

*I did a few more in areas I knew would be more prone to chipping

  • Yeah clear coated it 3 or 4 times, primed it silver then took a shit load of coats of white to cover the silver! Didn't really work out the silver pearly white flip I had in mind... but it was ok.

not a great picture but this was the bike, built up for my sister as something practical and reliable.. not a great photo either.

everytime i look at it I wish had gone for big apple tyres!

  • Ah well if it chips it chips. Nothing I can do about it, It was nice to have something practical to do after I finished work everyday. Big fat tyres would have looked good yeah, schwalbe hookworm's or something.

  • when she wears these out will get her some fatter tyres innit.

very keen on your colour scheme.

  • Cheers, the colour are Ford* 'Purple Velvet' *(Ford code: F & 828B.) and Ford 'Mercury Grey' (Ford code: 3, 3YP, MN, Q & 2076C.) if anyone wants to get some.

  • New front wheel for my Moser. More photos here

  • Schwalbe hookworm's

    Is that a hybrid tyre?

    Also, greengrocers' apostrophe.

  • ah yes, i see what i did there. It was because i was thinking about big apples' and typing.

  • New front wheel for my Moser. More photos

    Beautiful photos. Jealous!

    i'll say it again.

the key in rattle can is to leave the original paint on, and just lightly sand it with 200+ grit, followed by 000 steel wool. finish will be nearly as durable as the posdercoat.

    i get very durable results.

  • Paintjob looks sweet, placing of the Reynolds sticker looks shit. :)
    What's wrong with you!?

  • i know i know i know, i did it at whilst standing at a slight angle didn't notice till i stood back. the sticker was so sticky i knew it would just rip the paint right off if i tried to re place it.

  • That's lovely schnitter - That's a huge head tube - 65cm? You get a bargain?

  • Have finished building up the Basso frame I bought from the forum. Thanks to Dooks for the stem and bars, the final pieces of the puzzle.

Those gash brown alloy ones with scarification welds. I will probably upgrade to 26" carbon ones when I find something suitable. This way I will have one pair for touring and the other for pootling around Shoreditch.

  • that's nice.
