I sprayed a frame over a month, tried to get it a metallic white... prepped loads, had it cure in a heated area...
still chipped really easily, and spent about the same on rattle cans in the end as a cheap powder coat would've been. Worth doing it for the experience though.

Did you clear coat too? This has had 3/4* coats of primer, 3/4* coats of colour & 2 of clear coat. Thankfully its cost me much less than it should have as I have a friend who works in Halfords.
*I did a few more in areas I knew would be more prone to chipping

Yeah clear coated it 3 or 4 times, primed it silver then took a shit load of coats of white to cover the silver! Didn't really work out the silver pearly white flip I had in mind... but it was ok.
not a great picture but this was the bike, built up for my sister as something practical and reliable.. not a great photo either.
everytime i look at it I wish had gone for big apple tyres!

Ah well if it chips it chips. Nothing I can do about it, It was nice to have something practical to do after I finished work everyday. Big fat tyres would have looked good yeah, schwalbe hookworm's or something.

i'll say it again.
the key in rattle can is to leave the original paint on, and just lightly sand it with 200+ grit, followed by 000 steel wool. finish will be nearly as durable as the posdercoat.
i get very durable results.

I had to sent the carbon VNT SLX forks back. Pity - they're pretty.
Still need a seatpost, proper ti seat clamp, racks.
Tripple MTB chainset for that 54mm chainline, so I can run it single speed (SLX or FSA Afterburner) -

Those gash brown alloy ones with scarification welds. I will probably upgrade to 26" carbon ones when I find something suitable. This way I will have one pair for touring and the other for pootling around Shoreditch.
