Had this problem recently, ended up just fiddling with different heights / screws, sorted itself out in about 30 mins of tinkering. Never been a fan of front derauliiers.
On a different note, I never got to see your Strong Island bike at the exhibit, It was gone by the time I managed to look around. Got any photos of it finished?
