if you ever go down west i can give you some good places to go. ive done almost all of of cornwall and devon, and some of south wales on fixed. i highly recommend a gearing in the 60-67GI range as anything above that will probably kill you unless you are superman. i always aimed to do 80miles a day on 65gi and normally did it fairly comfortably.
ive thought about doing the whole coast of kent seeing as i partially live there, but im finding it hard to find the motivation as kent is mainly a skanky hole. rode through bex hill the other day, my god thats a depressing place, but not as bad as pikey paradise folkstone.
Yup, would have to agree that Kent is a bit, well, bleak. But it was an interesting ride, none-the-less, with some weird sights along the way. Most of it is on the Coastal route too - which was really lovely actually. Thanks gearing advice too - I think that has to be my next plan to start trying with different ratios. We will be down the west way soon - a week planned for early summer so hope to make a big bite of devon and cornwall.

Do you mean the Isle of Wight? (much nearer to Portsmouth!!)
Still blushing, actually, with embarrassment. That's why I need googlemap-based apps!

Enjoy! We did our three days (Isle of Wight gots some hills, I tell ya!) weekend before last; stunning weather with a little stretch of road through the new forest which i consider to be the best bit of cycle road I have ever gone through. Felt like a F1 track! Our blog post will be up soon.

I will enjoy it.
Does anyone know a good route from either Dover or Ramsgate int Central London.
I plan to take the ferry from Oostende (Belgium) to Ramsgate, but I read somwhere on this forum, that they don't take bikes on board !? -

He does have a point about Folkestone.
It's sell by date was around the end of the Victorian holiday resort era.

Ola! Yup, it's been a while but we are back on it! Late June will see us at Bournemouth for the next few days routes. And we've updated the website - www.cyclearoundbritain.co.uk (though give me some time to get it up to date!).
Reason for the break? Well, my 6 month old son has had something to do with it - but glad to be back in the saddle!.
