  • Im planning to hopefully do at least a hour of road riding a day. anyone up for this? Its been talked about but never implemented. heatwave predicted to start this saturday for 2 weeks and no dout june is going to be lovley too.

  • im up for some extra miles need to get myself ready for a 100miler and tatton park tri

  • .

  • I'm interested, work miles and timing makes my availability kinda random but if there's a regular thing I'd swing by when possible.

are you talking fixed or gears or either?

  • Can do either, plan different routes and such, but i was thinking mainly gears.

Timing is what we have to work out. Im free almost all the time for next few months it seems, not saturdays. so if only just a few people can come regularly I'm sure others with more important things to do with their time will join when they can. :-)

  • cool! im free after 3 everyday. once a week?

    my name's Paul btw

once a week!? HTFU. 20 miles a day 60 on sunday.

  • Where will you be starting out from on the rides? It can be quite tricky to get any momentum until out of MCR limits... red lights etc.

yes I know, I rode in wales other week and whent almost 20 miles without needing to stop once, except to check directions and such, its amazing. plenty of small roads and hills that dont exist in manchester.

I dont know where to start, dont know any good cycle routes.

  • if you can allow 20 mins or so to get out of urban bits there's a few routes to the south good for an hour or so plus out and in time... means appx 2 hrs for a 1hr ride tho!

  • I live in south anyway, already out of town pretty much.

  • .

  • i have about 50 routes saved on the pc from planning the full moon rides mostly north manchester

  • bump... coffeefix bike club launched last night, leaving from coffeefix in gatley at 6pm for 90 mins steady (17mph ave) fixed and gears were out yesterday. be great to get more along, every Monday. Lycra optional.

  • bump coffeefix (@coffee_fix on twitter) ride is on this eve, and most Monday. tune into the above twitter for weekly news about ride.

  • Ill see you there. Im riding red and black carbon bike

  • nice one, similarly black and red bike. see you shortly.

  • ^^ you ok? we waited until 10 past but others had stuff to get back for so we couldn't hang about longer.

nice out there, breezy about 28 miles at 17mph

  • yeah, sorry, i was a bit late. I got there about quater past. Still had a good ride though.

  • ah, sorry we missed you, glad you had a good one tho still. maybe see you in future weeks

  • p.s. how has the more regular riding worked out for you, feeling the benefits?

  • oh. yeah, I havnt been riding much more than usual infact, despite plans :-( I blame the weather.

  • I need to start riding more in July I'm getting lazy and slow.
I'm house sitting in Clitheroe for a week and just finished this:
    http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=mjwzklifkrmayqid

after being told by car drivers it's not too steep so I didn't check the elevation and almost collapsed part way through.

  • ~Been out that way a couple of times recently, got off the train and the climb out Clitheroe through Waddington isn't recommended when you're not warmed up. Did a longer ride and stopped off in a pub in Slaidburn for Bangers and Mash and a beer. To be confronted with a 16% hill half a mile after we set off.

An alternative is to out of Clitheroe and then West Bradford and Grindleton. If you want a challenge try Gisburn Forest/Stocks Reservoir and then the road over the moors to Easington.
