Barcelona has many pickpockets, but most visitors thefts are clueless foreigners. There is no organized crime or murders like USA, Mexico...etc or thieves with weapons.
Most thefts are in the center of the city and on the beaches near the Barceloneta.
The tournament is indoors and the beaches near the courts are far from thieves. Badalona is a chill city, without "crime".
I wasn't suggesting that there is organised crime in Barcelona, or that visitors are likely to be murdered, or that we shouldn't go, or that we should be frightened. I was merely recounting the experiences of a number of people who could hardly be described as clueless foreigners (bicycle messengers from cities as diverse as Berlin, SF, NYC & DC). Totally anecdotal, I agree.
