Velocity B43 - to brake or not to brake

  • Hello all

Basically I am building up a bike and its nearly finished! And its time to order my much needed wheels and i've been doing alot research on what i want and -'ve managed to find some velocity B43 and this is my dilemma.

I want to run brakeless because of the look and clean style it gives, but i kind of do want to run a brake incase i need to suddenly stop. So i was wondering, does anyone run brakes on their B43's and if the paint comes off after time? (Im going for the white ones)

Also for the people that run brakeless, how are you finding it and do you ever find yourself wanting brakes?

I have considered machined wall rims for brakes but Ive found a great pair of B43's for cheap and I'm not really into the other wheelsets I've come across.

    Any help would be great.

  • can you ride brakeless? if so, and you are confident, do so but at your own risk

if you can't then fucking don't

for a town fixed bike i don't see the appeal of brakeless

and then if you ever want to take the bike out of town and do any hills a brakeless bike is really not a clever idea

  • get a brake. ride like a brakeless rider, except when in emergencies when you really do need a brake. if you use it sparingly then your b43's will be fine.

    +1

The fact you are asking this question means to my mind that you shouldnt be contemplating going brakeless

  • If you're having the rims you found built for you, consider a front disk. It has been done plenty. The only thing to keep in mind is, most cheap disc compatible forks are beefy, and more trick orientated, with the exception of disc specific CX forks which aren't cheap.

  • Shimano dynamo hub with a drum brake.

  • Sorry to jump in on this thread guys but I saw the bike below on a recent trip to New York and wondered what type of rim the red one on the front is. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Michael.
