I use moisturizing cream from Lush, Karma being my favourite. You pay a lot extra for a chamois cream. The Lush stuff lasts for ages and it is a revelation to take shorts off after hours on a bike on a hot day and actually smell OK. I prefer to apply generously to the skin before putting the shorts on. Putting it on teh chamois uses a lot of cream, takes ages, and putting them on afterwards is a bit odd. imho.
