You can use whatever you want on whatever type of synthetic chamois. Personally, I've never gone for the rubbing it into the chamois thing, as I think it gets absorbed into the core of the fabric like a sponge, doing your skin little favour.
At least if you put a barrier/antiseptic cream on your skin, even if it's partially absorbed through the epidermis, it's still on your side in the fight against infection/sweaty abrasion.
