  • As far as I know, there isn't really a re-sale market in Birmingham. It's just opportunist kids nicking cable-locked bikes and selling them for a tenner to their mates. In 4 years of working in a bike shop and being moaned at by customers, I'm yet to hear of anyone breaking even a basic D lock. It's *always *cable locks.

Stupid Birmingham yoots steal Halfords/Argos bikes wit bad disks an' suspension innit. They don't care if you have an infinitely more valuable Surly, low-pro or vintage road bike, because they are stupid thieving cunts!

A big proportion of birmingham bike thieves are crackheads. Some of them go around with pretty big bolt cutters. I know that Aston and Birmingham uni campuses are big targets. Ive seen peoples bikes wrecked due to thieves attempting to twist the frame around till the d-lock (or railing) snapped. It doesnt usually work, but makes a mess of the bikes.

The resale is indeed poor though. They usually sell em on for £20 or so as quick as they can.
