The decal on the downtube needs rotating 180 degrees too...

Cheers Jono you are probably right, but they have been lacquered over so no chance of changing now.

Blimey, I would have thought there would have been some interest in this frame by now, is the price about right?
-
• #5
So no one interested then, oh well off to Fleabay at the weekend then?
-

It's very nice Jkulin. I almost would, but the upside down seattube decal would make me feel like a wally. I guess it means you can read it the right way up while sitting on the bike
riding along
'ooh i wonder what kind of bike I'm ridin'
looks at seat tube
'ah its a lovely red geoff butler'
hits back of van at 25mph
best of luck on fleabay.

don't think most people would mind the pitting, i certainly wouldn't
that decal though is another story

I'm probably thick lads (Go on ;-)) but the original spray job had the transfers that way round as well, so the transfers are correct and not the wrong way round

Look in the original picture and you will see that the top of the G is pointing towards the front of the bike and in the new one its pointing towards the rear.

I agree if it was that style of graphics, but it would appear that the original spray job when new fitted the graphics that way round and respray followed the original photo's.
The graphics were changed around 1986/9 to this new style according to George Clare at GB

The orientation of their bike graphics hasn't changed. We read left to right at all angles... hence the need to have the baseline inside the rear triangle. I imagine you're talking about a GB decals update around that time? Part of the redesign/original design wouldn't have been to go with an upside-down approach (unless they were mad).

I think when it was originally sprayed someone screwed up.
Anyway have decided to have the frame stripped completely, all the pitting made good and resprayed as I don't like doing things by halves.
Should be a gorgeous frame by the time I'm finished.
No sure whether to go down the original transfer route or put the 60/70's style.
I'm using Mike Kowal at Autostrada, been up to see his work today and it is superb, I'll put his contact details below, he charges £85 for a metallic spray job and lacquered transfers. I have him doing my GB Track frame at the moment so will post the results when I collect: -

Hi Luke,
I would, but when I took it down to Autostrada, they showed me how bad a spray job had been done and literally scratched some paint off the bottom bracket with their finger nails, as a result of which I was going to get it shot blasted and then resprayed, so you need to be aware that it needs this.
PM me if you are still interested.

How did the second resparay go?

How did the second resparay go?
Hi William, The first respray of my Track Frame is being collected on Friday Morning, so if that is fine then if I get a chance before my L2P ride on the 28th then will get it sand blasted and then dropped in for spraying whilst I am away.
I've learnt this time not to just assume someone can do the job right, this time I want to see it before I pay, but if judging by the frames around his place, then they should turn out beautiful, you never know I may end up not selling it if it looks like his other Candy Apple Red frames.
I have already had the transfers made up, so it is just about finding enough hours in the day!, I'll post when things are rolling.
I bought this frame before Christmas and it was originally in good condition but the paintwork was tired, photo below in blue: -
I paid a mate who owns a car respray business to strip the frame and I wanted it sprayed in the one and only House of Colours Candy Apple Red, just the paint alone cost £90. Transfers costs me £35 and the original frame £150, let alone what I paid the twat to prepare and spray it.
After months and months my ex mate returned the frame to me, well he was too much of a coward to return it to me when I was home and won't answer my calls since. I left the money for him when he dropped it off at my home after sending me iPhone pictures.
In essence he acid dipped instead of shot blasting the old paint off and then like a total twat didn't fill the pitting and just sprayed and lacquered the frame.
Anyway the long and the short of it was that I was so sickened that I couldn't have the heart to build it into a classic and bought a Colnago C40 instead.
So I have decided to sell the frame and offset some of my costs for the Colnago.
Here's a few photos of the frame now, I can't get any closeups, but have tried to show the BB pitting, that is the worse area, with a few Pitt's around the cable guides on the top tube and around the headset and rear brake bridge.
There is absolutely no rust anywhere the twat just never filled the pitting, the frame was properly sprayed using a rust inhibitor, then a fill undercoat, colour coat and then 3 coats of lacquer.
Dimensions are approx. 55cm Seat Tube C-C and a 56cm Top Tube C-C, the frame is made from 531 Reynolds and has horizontal Campag drop outs. It was built in 1989 as an Audax frame with mudguard eyelets and really is quite light.
The prat who sprayed it removed the BB cups that I had screwed into place and let the over spray fill the threads, however my LBS says they will clean them out if need be.
I'm looking to get at least some of my money back as in essence the frame is sound and from 10 foot looks fantastic and probably once everything is fitted no one would notice the pitt marks.
I'm looking for £225 + Carriage, I'm based between Wolverhampton & Stafford, but can meet up with anyone within 25 miles.
Dibs followed by contact and payment by Bank Transfer or PayPal Gift.
I've not advertised it anywhere else.
