Tub advice for outdoor velodrome

  • I just read somewhere that tape is not recommended, I just mounted a tyre with velox adhesive tape, is this not safe on moderate banking?
The tyre is vittoria rally, Ive tried my best to get it on straight but its not perfect, is it me or is it because its a cheapie?

  • I (and others at my local outdoor track league) have raced on Velox tape without problems.

Rallys are particularly lumpy cheapo tubs. Vittoria Pista CS (not EVO too fragile for outdoor) or Corsa Evo CX are much better.

    Also, see this thread http://www.lfgss.com/thread20510.html

  • Some tracks won't let you on unless you glue the tubs or use clinchers but those are usually steeper tracks

  • Aye, I probably wouldn't want to ride velox tape on an indoor track. I'm sure it's fine, but I'd be feeling nervous about my tub rolling.

  • Ok thanks for all the advice, will wait till I get some glue just to be on the safe side.

  • The tyres dont seem too lumpy but they look more like 25c rather than 23c, or maybe its because the rims are just under 22mm wide?
Ill use them on the road anyway

  • If you do purchase some proper tubs you'll notice the lumpyness of the Rallys. Especially around the valve stem
