SPD means they are clipless shoes, won't mention cleats because cleats come with your pedals, and diff pedals have diff cleats.
MTB means they have a two bolt drilling in the sole to attach the cleat and you'll be able to use any MTB pedal system like Shimano, Time, Crank Bros with them.
Lugs ares just the spikes on the sole for gripping in mud.
