Wanted: eBay Item from Germany

Posted on
  • Firstly, this is not a scam, hoax or ruse, but an honest request for help to get an e bay item back from Germany.

Basically, the item that I want comes up in the UK very infrequently and new pattern items are horrendously expensive.

The guy selling the item has specifically stated that he will not ship to the UK. Don't know why. He does not give a reason.

So, I'm looking for somebody in Germany, France, Holland, Denmark etc to be the receiving address if I win (hopefully) the item.

I will bid and pay for the item, but would like to use your address for him to ship to.

Then depending on the shipping cost from you to me in the UK, I can paypal or BACS direct transfer this to you.

If somebody can help, please PM me and we can discuss.

Auction ends on Saturday, so I have a few days to sort out.

    Thanks.

  • If he ships to Spain, I can help!...

  • I also speak German, if that helps.

  • Well Hello HotPro, and thanks for your reply to my request.
I was unable to PM you.
I already had a response from another LFGSS forum member and he has asked the e bay seller, (in German language of course) about shipping.
The response was that the seller will not ship outside of Germany, let alone to England.
So, this may be a matter of tax or similar, but now we will never know the actual reason.
Many, many thanks for your reply to my request for help.
If I can help you anytime, please contact me.
    Kind Regards.

  • I am in germany speaking german, and could be of help if still needed?

  • I do have a (somewhat) similar problem. I tried to acquire an eBay item from Edinburgh, used the "Buy It Now" button. The seller refused to be of any help with posting the item to Germany, their house courier will have to charge 220 GBP (!) for a Ladies Carlton frame including insurance. The price of the actual item is 200 GBP, so 220 GBP for transportation seems unreasonable. Asked for other options the shop wrote they won't send the item with other courier services since they're insured with the company that served them up to now. I inquired on my own via google search and wrote emails to other courier services without reply.
By the way I'm located near Frankfurt/ Germany. I don't know if you got your problem solved in the meantime.
    Best of luck!

  • i have some stuff from germany sent over anyway, if it is not too big, you can sent it to my friend in germany and he'll post it all tolondon.

    pm me

Did you end up have to pull out the sale in the end?
A courier for a frame to Germany from UK would be £25 (MAX) INCLUDING FULL INSURANCE via DHL Euro Plus.

  • @ Mr Bump!

Thanks for your reply. The shop pulled out of the purchase immediately after sale as they had the item on their list again. I'm no lawyer but I doubt this is correct by any means to eBay regulations. They didn't even ask me to do so.
So I guess your proposal would be to organize a DHL courier service including insurance on my own? I wonder if the shop will be reluctant to sell the item again to me if I click "Buy It Now". Maybe other reasons keep them from selling to Germany. Just a guess!

By all accounts HotPro is a stitch up cunt. Beware.

  • @ sLimJim!

Don't worry. All should be safe and sound with me...

And on behalf of me I mailed the shop at Edinburgh that I will take care of delivery and insurance. See what happens! I'll bet you they reply "Unfortunately this is not possible. We only deal with one courier."
And the moral of it is: "Nothing good comes without a fight".

A bid to buy at auction is a binding contract to purchase and likewise the offer to sell means the contract of sale formed by you bidding/buying is also enforceable. It does not matter whether that be in an auction house at say Southerby's or on ebay, the law is fairly clear on this.

By not selling to you they are breaching the contract of sale that you have with them. They are bound by law and you should tell them you can arrange a fully insured courier to collect the boxed frame. IF they fail to respond or refuse to sell to you tell them you're going to take legal proceedings against them PLUS any (reasonable) costs that you entail, including any travel costs to go to a county court of your choice in the UK (as is your right under UK law)
DO THIS IMMEDIATELY so no other buyer can get in, Also report it to ebay pronto & let them know you're doing this!
Sellers like this pee me right off.grrrrr
DHL can be arranged through Parcel2go who are an intemediary for courier companies and offer you multiple options.
A frame should be a very maximum of 110cmx20x55, it is the dimensions rather than the weight that is important.
Press them to release the goods and say you will arrange the courier to arrive on a day to suit them.
    hope this helps
