He seems to be saying that a 12 box of Trinidad Short Robustos are being sold for under $170 dollars - which is a respectable price.
...not that your friend is a cigar-mule, but if he does have spare room within his allocation, & doesn't mind buying a box; I would definitely take them off him + amicable courier fee for his efforts!?

Good to see I wasnt the only one having a punt.

I'm not sure how many cigars you're allowed to bring back with you from cuba, but my mate's already bringing 4 boxes - I'll ask him about bringing extras to sell but I doubt he'll be up for it... Anything he does want to sell I'll advertise here.

He's also saying that he can get 25 Cohibas (he didn't say which - he doesn't know a lot about cigars) for £50ish "from the back door of the factory" which sounds a bit dodgy, but I'm still tempted to buy some...
For £50 it's worth a punt. My mates dad paid £60 for the box of Montecristo No.2s and they turned out to be really good.

Summer approaches. We need to do a proper herf; one where cigars are measured in boxes and tongues feel like leather for days following. Some of us might not survive.
I propose Saturday the 28th of May. Mainly because the next two Saturdays I won't be able to do it. I figure if we can settle on a date then we can start bitching about locations.
In for the 28th D.
Any thoughts on location? -

My mate has returned from Cuba. He ended up going out on his own, as his travelling companion had to pull out at the last minute. Being on his own, my friend told me that he met loads of the locals and had an amazing time. One of the people he met worked in the Partagas factory, and was selling cigars on the side - my friend bought a fair few boxes, which I have just had a route through. It seems that the cigars (Cohiba Esplendidos and Robustos, Monte N. 4s, Partagas SD4s etc.) are all in pretty good condition, and look like the real deal. Unfortunately, the cigar bands are definitely fakes, and so are the ribbons that hold them together inside the boxes. I bought a box of Cohiba Robustos from him, and have just smoked one - it was pretty damn good, and I'm definitely glad with the purchase! The guy he bought them from had given my mate all the official stickers to add to the boxes so they could get past customs - He had completely forgotten to stick them on though, it was very lucky that he didn't get searched!
I've got some more cigars coming in the next week or so (cheers Dale), and I'm feeling fairly broke - I'm thinking of selling a few of the Robustos if anyone's interested?? I'm probably only going to sell 5 or so... Let me know if you're interested.
I'm also provisionally in for the 28th.

If you answer my texts, you'll get your cigars sooner. ;^)
I'd be interested in a punt on the Esplendidos, Jamie.
I've also really gone apeshit with cigar buying lately and realise I have purchased 11 boxes in the past month or so. In my defense they aren't all for me. I will likely be putting up a few fivers for sale in this thread soon.
edit: I'm also thinking of picking up a big ass wine cooler to replace a regular wine cooler I'm using as a humidor. If I do, the old one will be going spare. It doesn't seal well due to a bit of broken plastic on the hinge. I've gotten by with duct tape and weekly monitoring of it and that's worked for me. I'd look to sell it for very cheap if anybody is interested in a humi that works well if you stay on it.

I only bought Robustos from him, I don't know that he wants to sell any more of his cigars, but I'll ask him...
We should hook up this week, Dale. I still can't really smoke - I keep having the odd cigar which then fucks my sinuses up even more... I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go to the doctors, I think.
If you're around, we should meet 1 day after work. Let me know when's good for you.

I could go for some robustos.
I was impressed by the Montes I got. I think everything was genuine except the bands and the fancy green and white engraved sticker. I've asked for some more when he next comes back.Dale how big's your cooler? I am tempted.

Niall, I believe it's a 28 bottle one. I'll check the measurements as soon as I look at what I can replace it with. I'll let you know.

Cool.
I should be up for the herf too.
Was thinking about The George in Borough
http://www.pubs.com/main_site/pub_details.php?pub_id=92or if (as is likely) that is too busy the Old Thameside Inn
http://www.fancyapint.com/pubs/pub269.phpOr the Rake

The George is the one that was mentioned before, right? I haven't been there but if somebody knows it that's good.
Thameside isn't anything special but it could suit our needs quite well. Rake has great beers but are severely pricey and the smoking area is non-existent. I wouldn't recommend that one.

BQ I was gonna buy 5 off Forms but if thats all thats going we can split.

Yay my humidity temp gauge arrived from the US. Ordered a Caliber III one, seemed pretty recommended. 19.99 usd inc shipping, a fair amount cheaper than available here.

I think the George is the one just round the corner from the Anchor (where we all originally met last summer) - I was the only one who turned up to the "herf" that was supposed to take place at the George (not sure you can call it a herf if you're on you own...). It looked OK - had plenty of covered outdoor space, I'd be up for giving it a go.

Looks decent - very similar to the Xigar ones.
dibs if there's a box going spare, im interested, tell him to get extra
