Why not? The red hand is on the provincial flag of Ulster and on the badge of the Co. Tyrone Gaelic Athletic Association. It's non denominational.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hand_of_UlsterIt's the same discussion as regarding swastikas and other symbols with shady meanings attached to them through history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hand_of_UlsterTo my understanding, Ulster is a bit like, to Ireland/Northern Ireland, as Ossetia was to Russia and Georgia. I think that's more than enough controversy for one day!
From the wiki you linked to:
"The Red Hand can be regarded as one of the very few cross-community symbols used in Northern Ireland. Due to its roots as a Gaelic Irish symbol, nationalist/republican groups have used (and continue to use) it often – for example the republican Irish Citizen Army, the republican National Graves Association, Belfast, the Irish Transport and General Workers Union and numerous GAA clubs in Ulster. However, after the creation of Northern Ireland, loyalist groups began to use it widely – for example the Red Hand Commandos, Red Hand Defenders and Ulster Defence Association, among others."
Hurray for cross-community symbols!

It's the Rudge logo, They had a motorcycle called the Ulster. Nothing to do with the UDA or any political agenda.

Good for you. Except that I am from Northern Ireland and I know what I'm talking about. It's always annoying to have somebody try to paint a picture of your own country as some sort of violent backwater, without in a lot of cases, ever having been there.

Again. It's an UDA's symbol and will be seen as one by most people.

This is my home county's badge, which I can guarantee would not be seen as a UDA symbol

Red hand and some celtic looking text around it, if I seen someone with this tattooed on them, or even on their t shirt, I'd be giving them a wide berth.
Should I?
Probably not.Do I know any better or care to learn?
Nope. -

Nope. Not my original point. I was originally replying to the poster who suggested that you shouldn't 'flash about' a tattoo depicting a red hand in Northern Ireland. I'm suggesting that the people of Northern Ireland, amongst whom I number myself, recognise badges for what they represent. This has nothing to do with what other people think.

I've never seen anybody with a Polish Highlanders Corps tattoo in Omagh, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them now that I know what they look like. -
