  • could someone be sued for giving shit/dangerous advice on the interwebz?

Would you sue me for the resulting penile injury if I told you to go fuck yourself? No, because you'd be more stupid for taking the advice than I would for giving it. I can't see any cause for action, because I can't see how anybody could demonstrate that some random dude on the internetz has a duty of care.

  • Does anyone have access to scholarly journal sites? I need access to this article:
    http://jei.sagepub.com/content/12/3/195.full.pdf+html

Please PM, I might forget to check here.

tried, I don't have access to that specific journal.
    sorry.

  • tester repped for the succinct eloquence of his response

  • Some trials bikes have the freewheel mechanism in the cranks/bottom bracket do they not?

Good call, but the screw on hubs have no lockring threads, the assumption being that since there is a freewheel at the crank there is no back pressure to need a lockring. But, Echo do a fixed splined disc trials hub. It's only in 32h, it only takes Echo proprietary splined sprockets, and a hub with sprocket is about £110, but it's a plug and play solution at way under the cost of a Phil if you can work within it's limitations.

  • I'm pretty sure it would be easy and fairly cheap, I'm sure my tame machinist would be able to knock one up for less than £50, which, depending on the hub, might be a cheaper route than the MTB hub/Fixxer route.

How complex an object is your machinist happy to create?

  • ^ If your machinist would be able to knock one up for less then £50 i would be interested. Its an on one fixed fixed hub

  • SRAM are rumoured to be working on hydraulic discs for road levers for cyclocross, Shimano's plans are unknown but it wouldn't surprise me if they aren't doing the same.

What I don't understand is why it needed the UCI to lift the ban on disc brakes in cyclocross for these innovations to start. The majority of cyclocross bikes that are sold are used by commuters and casual riders, with only a small percentage ever being raced, so the market was already there.

I dont know why one of the smaller brake companies dont bring out a hydrolic lever which fits on drops. As well as the popularity of drops in the SS off-roading world (I'd have some on my SS 29er in a flash). There are more and more 'utility' style bikes coming out with disc mounts (ie. Salsa Vaya, Singular Peregrine etc.). Half of which will likely be built up with separate levers. I'd love to go drops+hydrolics on the workhorse bike, while keeping my bar-end shifters to MTN drivechain set-up.

So I alone would rush out and buy 2 sets of levers. So it cant be that much of a niche product, or am I just weird*.

    (*dont answer that)

  • Hope would be an obvious company for that, maybe?

  • How complex an object is your machinist happy to create?

Not sure, I've never asked for anything particularly complex. The guy I used to use sold his plant and contact list to http://www.pulse-racing.co.uk/, you can see from their site the sort of business they are in, I've had a few bits done there since the move.
    They make these, for example:

As I've said before, there are plenty of small workshops around who are happy enough to take on small one-off cash jobs, it's best to find a local one and actually have a chat with a man in oily overalls.

  • Hope would be an obvious company for that, maybe?

Yes. In a nice gunsmoke finish to match my mini pro's.

  • could someone be sued for giving shit/dangerous advice on the interwebz?

i am wondering about the potential legal ramifications of some of the facetious comments made by many of us here

Not unless you were giving legal or medical advice, or anything requiring a license. As far as I understand that is considered practicing without a license, and is punishable by law in the States. It's why I can't advise clients to take any medications whatsoever, I have to say, "consult your physician before taking any of the things I might tell you have helped other people with your issues".

  • tried, I don't have access to that specific journal.
    sorry.

thanks for trying, I wondered if you'd see this.

  • ^sueing you for not prefixing with IANAL. mostly because we all know you do.

  • fuck you and your fucking last second edit.

  • How many people on here have been caught out by the Veronica Moser set up?

  • Getting the shape machined out would be simple. But how common is a 1.37x24 thread? doesn't sound like the most common thing to have

Facetious comments are part of the game on forums. You a lawyer?

Looking for work, that is: )

  • How many people on here have been caught out by the Veronica Moser set up?

    Who?

    Interesting stuff.

By far the most valuable site on the internetz..

  • I thought it was confrontation.

  • How many people on here have been caught out by the Veronica Moser set up?

    I'd need to google that.
Nope, nothing there or perhaps I misspelled something?

  • can't this be cut on a lathe?

Getting the shape machined out would be simple. But how common is a 1.37x24 thread? doesn't sound like the most common thing to have

  • If you can find a lathe that spins slow enough for you to be that accurate.

  • Hope would be an obvious company for that, maybe?

    Loads more here.

  • I upgraded to the latests version of Ubuntu and now a lot of the videos posted on here don't play properly; they have big white blocks and stripes across them. This does not happen on YouTube though. Any ideas? Ta.
