with practice may end up like this at the lights

  • Is that when females hit their vaginas on their frame?

    Really?!?

    sigh

  • please stop practising on the street people.

  • ...or on any people.

  • Who are these street people?

  • Tiswas I think you're confusing bicep curls with meat spins again.

  • You can trackstand a freewheel pretty easily if on a slope, facing upward, as you can then balance against the bikes desire to roll back.

I learnt to trackstand on MTB's, and then you had to sort of bounce the bike off the front brake,if on the flat, if that makes sense?

What he said, it is easy on a freewheel, if thats what you're used to, easy fixed, if that's what you're used to.

I've managed quite a few minutes on my road bike, by doing what dammit describes above. I can also balance pretty much infinitely on fixed....

Only thing I struggle with is gates practice on mtb/bmx... (because you have to keep your front wheel straight...)

  • Riders ready. Watch the gate. Beep, beep, beeeeeeeeep!

  • I only track stand if I know I can stand absolutely still whilst looking as if it takes no effort at all. I feel silly if I'm jerking back and forth, creeping over the line, I just look like a twat. Mind you I probably look like a twat when I do it perfectly as well. I just like the feeling of smoothness, not touching the floor EVER, makes me feel part of my bike. I love my bike very much.

  • My trackstands are pretty good but as the fastest rider in the universe* I need the as much rest as possible, so the top tube is often my seat. Nothing to prove, foot down ftw.

    *my universe

  • Sometimes I seem to catch red light at every junction, when this happens and I track stand all I tend to get mad cramp in my right calf.... I like the sprint up to speed off from the track stand when the light goes green though. I view it as great practice for when I finally make it back to riding the (bmx) track.

  • I'm good at trackstanding but I can never be bothered these days, except in circumstances when it's actually helpful (let's say, if you get caught behind a stationary bus and you're waiting to pull out).

If I trackstand at a red light I feel like a bit of a posing twat, especially if I have wait for a whole cycle before it goes green.

It is fun though, as are backwards circles.

  • I've found SPDs and backwards circles are not friends...

  • not in road cleats....

  • Feet at level in the cranks, dominant foot forward, front wheel turned towards that foot. see if you can find a slight camber to practise against, and resist against it. Gentle rocking back and forth, and you should nail it.

Don't worry about falling over, if you feel you are losing it, just pedal forwards and roll out of it slowly, then put you foot down.

Practise every time you stop! Every red light, whenever you get to your destination, every time! Though made sure you've got enough space to roll forward safely. This is important. I don't want you to die.

It won't take long. It's one of those things that you'll keep trying for ages, then all of a sudden it'll click. Don't give up! It's worth learning, it'll make you a stronger rider, and there is a great joy of being able to cycle your whole journey without putting your foot down.

Couple of last tips I've remembered, standing up in the saddle makes it easier, and some people find that one of your knees touching the top tube helps (extra point of contact or summat).

Good luck! I'll see you at the lights.

You mean you have one of these?

  • Feet at level in the cranks, dominant foot forward, front wheel turned towards that foot.

I don't know why, but I've improved my track stand skill putting forward my not-dominant foot.

  • Clive can trackstand and then some. He was doing it as a form of Republican protest on Friday.

  • I learnt from the Fifth Floor Crew (or TrixieDix as it was then called) thanks to a suggestion from Oliver. Mind you, I struggle with right footed trackstands and am only now mastering seated trackstands and have not contemplated free wheel trackstands yet. In other words, i can do left footed standing strackstands on a fixed bike until the cows come home but little else.

Practice is what is required. That and patience and a desire to reduce the wear on one's Look Keos.

  • I'm trying to trackstand at the moment after getting spds

I improved the amount of time I could trackstand by using the front brake as well

I practice on grass as it makes the track stand a little easier, and if (read: when) I fall over, it doesn't hurt as much...

  • When I get to a traffic lights I drop one of my balls as an anchor on one side, and that allows me to balance seamlessly for hours on end.

Needless to say, all the laydeez up in the street are impressed by my MASSIVE cojones.

  • Track standing on a 90"+ gear, on an angled stretch of siberian pine is where its at. Not the little green box at a set of traffic lights that reeeeeeeally pisses drivers off, and encourages them to floor the accelerator, thus dangering you....*

    *From experience.

  • If I trackstand at a red light I feel like a bit of a posing twat, especially if I have wait for a whole cycle before it goes green.

    That's the point, shirley?

  • Trackstanding Boris bikes FTW.

  • i have recently mastered the no handed track stand
and boy do i look cool doing it
