  • Right, now that Easts has moved back, erm, east (south-east, really, from up here), I propose that we hold North-east Beers as a Brockley-style drinks, i.e. once a month.

I've put up a poll here with four pub options, but feel free to suggest others. They should be reasonably far north-east, i.e. further north than E8 and further east than N4, I think.

I'd propose the second Monday or the second Friday of each month. Would that work for you? Friday would mean that it wouldn't clash with Souths. I've picked second Mondays and Fridays as I normally don't have anything on then, but if that doesn't work for most, we can think of something else.

If we're going for Monday, the first time would be Monday the 13th of June, or if it were to be Friday, it would be the 13th of May.

Select as many options as you like (although it would be helpful if you only voted for three pubs at the max), except for picking both date options. :)

The poll will be open for a week, until this coming Tuesday.

  • Sounds good! Although my week is slowly becoming all forum beers...

  • Jolly Butchers is ace, and on the way home. Great plate of sausages helps you work through their great selection of beer...

  • Oliver, you hardly ever came to Easts when it was at the Sov :-)

The Jolly Butchers is far and away the best pub in the area, and the new assistant manager is a splendid fellow familiar to many.
But (and it's a big but) there is absolutely nowhere to put bikes.

    Very true...

Yes, Wednesday evenings generally aren't good for me. #excusesexcuses

With this being only once per month, I should be able to make it a regular thing.

That's what I thought, too. I initially thought I'd suggest it as the main option owing to the identity of the new assistant manager, but, as you say, the lack of bike parking is a significant problem.

  • The Sovereign is a damn nice, and very bike-friendly, pub, and with no quiz to cock things up on a Monday, would be a good choice
We didn't think very much of the Elderfield when Easts on Tour was there, and it's an area infested with bike thieves.
The Prince is OK, but very overpriced with a boring beer selection.

  • I agree on the Sovereign, but I like both of the others, too. I still haven't been to the Jolly Butchers.

Oh, and that was a good point. It's also why I thought we might only do this monthly.

  • Bi monthly?

  • Bap ?

  • I'd like to point out I'm happy with the Jolly as well as the Sov.

  • Vote in this lovely (almost AV) poll, everybody.

  • great idea.

    yep i have voted.

what with the av ref and the local elections i am doing a lot of voting today !

  • Bump. This poll will end tomorrow, and so far it's looking like the Jolly Butchers, second Friday of the month. Vote if you want to swing the result or strengthen it.

And it's always COMPLETELY rammo, pretty much everyday of the week - all v shovey and struggling to hear each other.

If it was a monday I'd still come if it was on the Butchers, but Friday would be a total mare. Jesus. You know you're getting old when you want to be able to sit down and hear yourself in a pub : (

  • You know you're getting old when you want to be able to sit down and hear yourself in a pub : (

No, I've always been like that. :)

Mostly, I'd be struggling to hear others, though.

  • Time to learn how to sign ?

  • Right, this poll is now closed, with a vote for the second Friday of the month (this Friday, as it happens), but a dead heat between two pubs. I'm inclined to say let's meet at the Sovereign and go to the Jolly Butchers later? Or the other way around, to perhaps catch the JB when it's quieter?

  • I like the idea of a north-east night, but am unlikely to come on fridays when there are drinks somewhere more central. The best night i would think would be a thursday, as many people eastish are unlikely to go to wests, so could become a proper drinks in its own right.

  • That is a good point, Michael. My problem is that I can almost never make Thursday evenings. Shall we see how it goes?

Part of the thinking behind Friday was that central Friday drinks only come together very rarely, and I have to say that I've often found myself wishing there were forum drinks locally (although I do like going down to Brockley to join the Brockley lot).

  • Last friday drinks that I saw Oliver at was fantastic at the Orwell with Jc and Betty! We need more fridays like that!

  • We can obviously do North-easts on Tour, too. Plenty of good pubs north-east.

  • i am looking forward to going to joe's new pub
