  • ^WTF is that guy doing in the background?..

  • I cheated, took a short cut which was lovely! A cycle path that had signs "stop and listen for the old oak trees creaking / for the house sparrows" so I did. Did 80k in 6 lovely leisurly hours on my own.I love the IOW Randonnee and had a big grin on my face the whole time.

  • nice work veevee, a whooooole lot easier (but not better) than last year.

  • Wish I could break 4 hours for 100km.

    apply carbon...:)

  • and shimano...

  • fucking ace time as per the last 7 years. great to see some faces at Yarmouth. Had to dig very deep this year on fixed with the likes of Jonny, Shoots, texas, pinky and jean claude who really knew how to crank it up when it mattered the most. Still, I don't think any of them dug quite as deep as me and they will all be buying my knew book 'take it to the edge' which is available in all leading book stores.
Too many good laughs to mention plus a few pints and a victory 7-6 over shoots at table football using coinage on the train table going home. That's a whole lot of win.

  • .... I had 24 gears this year. No wonder I grinned the whole day.

  • My mindless adherence to the infernal Garmin had me doing 106km in 4.09 (with the assistance of modern geary things). Nice day. No rain like last year, but pretty windy. Wish I could break 4 hours for 100km.

I missed the final east-most loop bit still got 95k in 3.28. Let's ride it together next year J... I still owe you a tow!

  • Hey hey all, great camping and ride this weekend. As usual it was good to meet some more forum goers . To bad we had to leave quickish on sunday evening but hope everyone at the tee-pees had a good time.

  • ^WTF is that guy doing in the background?..

a tired recumbent rider feeling pretty stiff no doubt. wtf are you doing though?!!! :)

  • One of the lovely sights on the way round.

  • a tired recumbent rider feeling pretty stiff no doubt. wtf are you doing though?!!! :)

    Recumbent me Bro!

  • managed to somehow only see 2 forumengers all the way round which much be a record....(not including the one I was with)

Ride was great your bike and my bike sounded sweet Pifko (silent)
putting it in the middle of 2 nights camping is quality relaxation all round.

even found a restaurant in Ryde called Reef that was simultaneously playing 'riding giants' film in background to guy playing Nick Drake and other songs live whilst we scoffed fish last night.

    comedown of work tommorrow immanent...

oh, apparently I had 6 cakes in all yesterday, not a bad effort. (pic)

  • Fantastic day out but only saw one fixed (being pushed up the Blackgang hill) and one single speed freewheeling past me downhill on the way to the Wootton checkpoint. My Gazzetta was great up all the hills but twitchy as usual down all the hills. Bit windy on the South side of the Island but at least it meant that I did not need to work to slow myself down the back of the Freshwater hill for a change. I had some friends down from the High Peaks from Wills Wheels Cycle Club going geared; first time on the Island and they loved it. Great to see over 2000 cyclists spinning a small island!

  • Sweet ride and good company. Nice weather this year and good to see some skiddy fiddlers at Yarmouth. Tipi action was a good call.

  • Fantastic day out but only saw one fixed (being pushed up the Blackgang hill)

    This was probably me :P

  • well that was a simply brilliant run around the Isle.

big thanks to shoots and clintsmoker for that massive laughs on the trains and giving me some lovely spinning wheels to follow round the island. great to hook up with texas, pinky and jean (Team Pretorius) for a fair bit of the route - some awesome rolling from you guys.

really happy to see the Tipienger group at Yarmouth and nice to learn you guys eventually got amongst and find your legs.

big hello to Landslide - pleasant surprise seeing you at Bembridge and Wootton. sorry not to see so many of the others - but is a nice thought to think of groups all representing on different parts of the island.

roll on next year. number 9.

  • What a great weekend! after all the worry about rain and 20 mph winds, it was a largely great weather day.
Going for tipi was great, lots of relaxing and good times with everyone. Even if i forgot my sleeping bag.

    Roll on next year.

  • Phew...I think I am only now beginning to overcome the exhaustion that this weekend has left me with.

Too many highlights on the actual ride to mention, but the climbs and descents on the south side were a lot of fun. I remember going down freshwater leaning into a stiff sidewards breeze, legs feeling as if they would spin out of their sockets, with the wind billowing in my cheeks. And all I could think was: I must look a bit like scooby doo.

The smiffblitztrain for some of the remaining miles (until my light fell out my pocket) was also fab, with laner, jacksandwich, Fox, and myself clinging on for dear life as he ate up the rolling country lanes, spitting out many geary folk in our wake...

Camping was a good choice too, we had a nice little bunch for poo-talk around the fire.

Very much looking forward to the same again next year, preferably with less wind.

  • A superb weekend. The Isle of Wight cycle route really has a lot to offer in terms of green lanes, open fields, and sea views from cliff-tops and quaysides.

Had a hoot with the Tipi crew. Big Thanks to T4NYA for making this happen.

Just didn't have the legs to cycle back from Portsmouth, given the wind and all the hospitality I'd partken around the campfire. But next year ...

  • ^ I need photoshopped into that one. I was there. Honest, guv'nor.

  • A great weekend, a lovely route, good company, all good really. The tipis were a great idea, thanks Tanya for organising. Glad I did it fixed and didn't give in to geared temptation, although I wasn't thinking that on Monday during the aborted ride back me and spybot attempted, the wind on Monday heading out of Portsmouth was an absolute killer. I was also seriously tired yesterday.

It was fun hanging on to the smiff train until Oli's light fell off, but by the end I was ready for that carvery :)

Photos follow, annoyingly I had the ISO set too high for that 'northern lights' shot, oh well...

  • great pics!
