  • On Saturday afternoon a neighbour was attacked by several Hells Angels near Elephant and Castle. A group of them had rlj and when he did a "what was that?!!" gesture (he's a very even-tempered guy so would NOT have been abusive) they chased him down to Bricklayers Arms and into a local park. They beat him up. Luckily he was wearing a helmut, but the 3-4 Hells Angels were trying to gouge his eyes out. Just a warning to be careful. Safe riding everyone

  • ???????
    wtf?
    are the police doing anything?

  • That's horrible, fingers crossed the fuzz catch these guys! Hope you're neighbour is doing okay!

  • Apparently at least one of bikers had part of their number plate covered in tape...these are vicious bikers who were probably on the look at for trouble, picking on a lone cyclist.

  • Aren't the UK hells angels just a bunch solicitors with harley's?

  • nah...they all work in IT!

  • Oi

  • Angels don't pick fights with irrelevant and annoying flies. Your mate must have done something that caused offence.

The vast majority of Angels are mild mannered and middle-aged, only the younger lot are likely to engage in a fight, and even then they know there's a risk to it so will only do so if triggered by someone being particularly confrontational and abusive.

Disclaimer: My father is one and has been for 40 years. I've been to rallies when much younger, and I never saw any of them needlessly get violent. They're a perfectly reasonable lot and don't differ greatly to the culture of this here cycling community.

  • Seriously though...I also was under the impression the UK scene was very different from the U.S., but looks like that might be a misconception

  • Since I wasn't there personally I don't know for sure what he did...but I've known him for several years, never seen him lose his temper, he is over 40, and works in the city in a job that requires him to keep a cool head. ...and what's this "oi" all about?

  • well - if he wants to go and "point them out" just go and hang out outside their club house in Hackney.

  • How do we know they were Hells Angels, and not just idiots of motorbikes with no affiliations ?

My experience with Hells Angels has always been good. As Velocio says, they seem to be mostly mild mannered and easy going.

  • hippy works in IT, he's responding to the post prior to his.

Seriously though, no-one just kicks off, no-one anywhere. They're not dumb, they are well aware of cameras covering the streets of London and the traceability. They would only take such a risk if provoked.

The only thing I know for sure would trigger an Angel is if you had a tattoo claiming to be one and you weren't. In which case they'd remove it for you.

and some of the 'cycling community' like to beat the crap out of each other too.

  • and some of the 'cycling community' like to beat the crap out of each other too.

So what we're looking for is the 5th Floor equivalent of some bikers.

  • and some of the 'cycling community' like to beat the crap out of each other too.

    ouch.

  • I'm just posting what I heard. I have no reason to doubt what this guy said....and as for Hells Angels -- I've only ever seen them once when a large group of them stormed down a motorway I was driving on. They bullied their way past traffic -- one of them "tapping" on the roof of my car because I didn't get out of the lane fast enough, weaving in and out of cars and generally been total pillock like. How do I know for sure they were Hells Angels -- cos they had Hells Angels logos on their jackets.

  • E&C roundabout to The Bricklayers, that's quite a chase...? Plus why The Bricklayers, stop for a quick pint? Which park....don't know one round there?

    I smell a rat

Hells Angels in the UK must be pretty different from Canada!

    I work it IT.

I never said E&C roundabout I said "near" - coz I don't know exactly where this happened and as for the park - do you know Darwin Court?

  • I work it IT.

so i've found out! no offence intended (this time, heh heh)

    Very different.

Though the Danish and Swedish are more like the Canadians.

  • Anyway this incident has merely reinforced my determination to not get het up at all while out riding. I've been reading alot on this forum about cycle training and have enjoyed all of Gaz545 videos....So I've forsworn all rjl, all pushing to the front of ASL and have been tempering my "holier than thou" attitude towards other road users. So far I've enjoyed my commute far more than I would have imagined and now see stopping at red as an opportunity for others to view and appreciate my honed physique and lovely bike!

    +1

I was keeping my curiosity quiet, but I go through there twice a day, most days of the week, and I don't know of a "park" near the Bricklayers Arms.
