To mark the 63rd anniversary of the 1948 London Olympics, please join me on a ride that links to the two venues that were used for the cycling events, Herne Hill velodrome and Windsor Great Park, and uses parts of the 2012 Olympic cycling routes to link the two.
Edit: I've added a pdf showing the 1948 course around Windsor Great Park.
A draft route is available here, but I may refine it when I get a chance to ride it properly;
The ride will leave HH at 9 a.m. to avoid the worst of the Saturday morning traffic, and will cover a distance of approx 50 miles over predominantly flat roads.
Return options are varied, we can ride back, get various trains etc., so that's up to people to decide what they want to do.

We'll conclude the ride with a couple of laps of the road race course that looped around Windsor Great Park (even back in 1948 the idea of closing roads for cycling events was frowned upon) and was won by the French rider José Beyaert, who's life story is told in Matt Rendell's excellent book: Olympic Gangster
